Not at all. Usually $250 to 350 depending on how long she stayed with me. I always bring along lunch for them and we had lunch before the session. Nobody ever talk about the time or the money.

Fabulous answers on running your own spa. So many problems would be solved with a minimum of 15 minutes between appointments, no exceptions!

You mentioned the ideal spa would have zero tolerance for substance abuse. What is your rationale? Do you feel there would be definite benefits if that were strictly enforced?

In some of your replies it sounds like it's very common for girls in the industry to be high (and / or drinking) on the job. Could zero tolerance reduce staff the same way a hypothetical 'no married men' policy would reduce the client base, or do you feel the benefits to the business would definitely offset any potential loss of attendants at the spa?

Thank you. It would definitely be less stressful for everyone. I think most spas aim for this but break their own rules to try and book more clients, not taking into account the possible decline in service level. I have seen girls who are back to back all day and you can see the decline in their mental health. They're not happy.

Substance abuse leads to mental instability and problems in general. Plus, if bylaw/police ever came in, it would just work against the spa/individual girls. In my spa, substance abuse is not a general issue. Girls imbibe from time to time, but not in an obvious way. There are always girls who want to work - if getting fucked up is more important to you than making money, you can go.

You mentioned you were in a very tough financial spot when you first got into the business and cried with relief after your first shift. If a really good friend confided to you that she was similarly in a really difficult place financially and wanted to get in the business, would you advise her to become an mpa?

Whether or not you would you would encourage her to get a job in the business, if she was insistent that she was going to get into the business regardless, what advice would you give her about navigating this occupation? And in that scenario would it be better for you if she was the same spa as yourself, or a different one?

I would first tell her some stories of the worst things I know of that has happened to see if she has the mental fortitude necessary - eyes wide open, as it were. If she wanted to, I wouldn't stop her. It would be better for her to work in the same spa as me so she has someone looking out for her that isn't making money off of her.

Advice:
- Keep your priorities straight.
- Have an exit plan.
- Decide what you won't do and stick with it.
- Learn to read the room and trust your gut.
- Never, under any circumstances, give personal information to clients or other staff.
- Think very carefully about whether it's a good idea to see other girls or clients outside of work.
- Always keep your money with you, never keep yesterday's money on you.
- Don't be flashy.
- Avoid conflict unless it is directly harmful to you.
- Don't be afraid to quit. You have options.
- Aim to save half of what you make.
