Lack of production is lack of production - Communist country or a shut down in a capitalist country.

And the govt takes half our property, so we cant really consider ourselves much different from a controlled economy in Communist countries.

The reason why Communist countries fail and why shutdowns are bad now is you have a massive reduction in production of goods and services. You can have all the money in the world, but if you dont produce much because of a forced shutdown, you havent created any wealth.

Its all about Production of goods and services. Its not about money.

I get it. Social distancing, self-quarantining, stay at home, shutdown the economy, flatten the curve... blah blah blah! Anymore buzzwords? Time is not on our side with this. This is not a wait-and-see situation or a "however long it takes" scenario. There has to be a cut-off period. There has to be a temporary band-aid to this virus. We can't just remain in shutdown for as long as it takes to develop a vaccine. People have to come back to work eventually. At some point in time, we'll have to try something else. It's important to listen to the experts but once in a while, even they have to see things from a different lens. Yes it's important they do their part as health workers with the intent of finding a cure to the disease but they should also keep in mind those suffering as a result of all these attempts to lower the numbers. They can't just flippantly tell us to stay at home indefinitely with no regard for our financial well-beings. They can't just take their sweet ass time while we sit at home not just trying to contain the virus but worrying about other things as well like where we will get our next meal and how long we can sustain this long layoff. I know everyone's hard at work trying to find solutions to this crisis but damnit, give us something to look forward to!

What I wrote was just a very general sentiment of frustration as an average everyday citizen. I didn't talk about how exactly we should go about it because I'm just a Joe Schmo putting his faith in healthcare workers. All I was saying was, this whole social distancing and shutdown that we're doing, it's gotta be for something. If we're left with nothing at the end of all this, then it wasn't worth trying to begin with. To repeat myself, this isn't a "however long it takes" scenario. More like an "act now" situation. Time is not on our side here. This isn't about just containing the virus. It's also about doing so while trying to avoid complete irreversible damage to the economy. Yes, widespread testing is the only band-aid we have. I agree with you on just about everything you said except for the "prepare for a new life" part because I am not preparing for the worst. If I didn't believe that things would get better, I'd risk getting arrested for loitering in the streets and throwing parties every weekend living like there's no tomorrow but I do think there is a light at the end of the tunnel so I'm holding it all off for now. If god-forbid, I'm wrong, hopefully I'll be dead by then.
