Actually my post was made using the quick reply at the bottom of the previous page and so I didnt see some of the responses that followed on when I made it..

I will also say that Noway is not exactly a hotbed of multiculturalism and being less integrated will make it harder to educate her and perhaps seem less appauling as I met many norwegians who made no secret of thier inbuilt prejudices.. We were to supply labour there at one point and it was made clear that they only wanted brits of one color.. They had no shame whatsoever in making a statement like that.

You made some good points, but in my experience the victim complex is always followed up by the spoilt child hissy fit routine by shouting racist at everything as a knee jerk reaction to feeling vulnerable. Maybe people grow out of it. I've yet to hear anyone over the age of 30 "play the race card".

But then again, my experience with African Americans is limited to some sailors on shore leave. The city where I went to university was a huge Naval base.

This has been an intresting thread..... Racism is a subject that although has been documented on here a few times is still intresting to read.... Racism IMHO simply comes down to a point of view.

If you really think about it to hate another race albeit for colour, religon or simply from what nationality someone else is simply a point of view. People preach on about world peace.....Although thats a dream i think personaly it will stay like that for the simple reason there will always be people who look down and dispise/hate someone else.

No one loves everyone... i know i have put a few countries on my list of never visits for various reasons.... What i dont like is the politcaly correct brigade who say we should be like this and live like that... The claim to be against racism but, in England anyway, I think they have slowly turned it into an Anti-English place.... So does that constitue racism or is that just there point of view?

I think the 2 are very different subjects... I like Thais and Thailand. I have no problems justifying why i like to go there and why i would sleep with these beautiful ladies but there are a few countrys i dont like for various reasons.

But in regards tto the sensitivity comment, I do not think that it is so much about playing a card as to *touching an area where the bandage has been ripped off of*. Yeah the healing process is on going but the hurt still remains. Unless you have really spoken to an african american, you may not realise that although slavery was abolished a century ago, we just recently became a nation of one. And any time there is remants of a past gone era still alive, you will never really move forward. I consider myself a 2nd generation with the first being the grandchildren of slaves. Has this made me a racist? Of course not, but it has made me very open to the extreme depths of the human spirit(both good and evil).

I`m with Steve on this one, Frode was wrong however well meaning his intentions were to post this. To me postings like this just perpetuate the misconceptions some people have about black people. Can`t see a black man in the dark ? You`re having a laugh. I was in Isaan last week and can see how opinions are easily formed without contact with the " real world " where most of us live.

Why are you apologising? In my experience the Navy or the armed forces in general seem to be a nice cross section of society. You get really nice guys and then the absolute scumbags. You might as well be apologising for the male sex :ytounge:

This is very interesting. I have some American friends that tell me that some schools in America have self-imposed segregation(sorry I can't spell), where the ethnic groups just don't mix. This does seem incredible to me.

Haha, no you did make a lot of sense, in such a condition. I like different cultures, and when I am in foreign country, I hate people who do not respect the locals. Even in my own country there are a lot of people I dislike as others I enjoy very much, wich has nothing to do with their religion, race or whatever.

There are great muslim, people, with a lot of class, as there are a category who give their own people a bad name. As if all the English were hooligans!
