I had my testosterone checked last year June because I was feeling blah about everything in life. You know what, my levels were low. So I decided to get a script for Testosterone. It works!! and after about a month, my levels came back into the normal range. I'm now thinking of going even to a stronger dose. I started in this hobby just after my T levels came back to normal and now I'm still going good almost a year now.
My libido came back and so did my morning wood.

I have been on TRT for about four years. I get morning wood now and one way or another the number of times I ejaculate per week went from an average of five to ten times. Another benefit was that I quickly added 12 lbs of muscle in six weeks (the gains then stopped there). My wife noticed that I became a little more volatile initially, but that passed. Over the long term I seem to be aging well and the only negative is that my hair is a little thinner. At this point I am getting a shot of 1cc per week (the other delivery methods are not as effective) and I get my levels of testosterone (bound + free) and estrogen tested every three months. I try to keep my testosterone levels at the top of the recommended range and periodically adjust the dose (or miss a dose, get an extra dose) to maintain that level. Fortunately I have not had an issue with estrogen. TRT has helped me but it is not a miracle, and it is not for everyone. Other benefits include feeling more vital and more competitive.

Testosterone affects the physical side of sex, but the mental is just as important. Too much porn can desensitize you. Mental chatter can stop you from enjoying the moment. My family doctor gives me the shot once per week. You can also get a shot once every two weeks for convenience, but weekly gives you a more steady level. I have a fear of needles so self-injection is not an option. Having a medical person do the shots is much safer anyway (the shorts are intramuscular and require some knowledge and technique). My dose is 1cc per week testosterone enanthate. A 5 cc bottle is $79, which is about half of what you are paying. On my last test my level was 24.9 nmol/l, which is a little below the high end of the recommended range. On one test I got as high as 55, and I then made adjustments. I have not noticed any difference in feeling between 55 and 30, so beyond a certain point more is not better.

I find that the other thing that makes a difference in my libido is zinc - I take 200 mg/day, which is a lot for most people. I have been taking all kinds of supplements since I was 16 and I think they have really helped me.

Some general advice to all men - once you are over 45 get your hormone levels tested once a year. If your T levels are low, and you no longer want to have children, supplemental testosterone can make a significant difference.

Yes, much cheaper and I will be ask for the shots next. Did you start with the shots or something else? I think my doc told me this was about the time I get the shot anyway so I will be doing the same as you soon. I don't feel a lot of difference between the before and after part except for my libido. No hair loss but maybe a red bump or 2 pops up on the chest area. I just looked at numbers - my oops.. the range is 5-32 nmol/L. I'm at 18.6 nmol/L.

I researched testosterone for over a year before starting. I found out that shots were the most effective and least costly of all the delivery methods, so that is the only thing I have done. A lot a family doctors do not know much about TRT. Some have a bias against it because at one time the research seem to indicate that it could accelerate prostate cancer. The current state of research indicates that this is not the case, but it is still a good idea to get a PSA test every year or two. My family doctor sends me to an endocrinologist once a year to make sure no harm is being done. Also TRT reduces the amount of sperm you make, so it is not something to do if you want children (I do not!).

After getting a shot I do not feel any different - it is only on reflection that I can see the results. If I miss a couple of shots (for example if I go on vacation) I do not notice a decline in libido until the end of the second week, at which point my levels have dropped by about 60%. I think generally when you start TRT you will not notice a difference until you get your testosterone levels into the healthy range. It may be a good idea to start off with higher doses to get you to that level, and then adjust down until your levels are steady. I have a math and science background, I keep records in a spreadsheet all kinds of things so I can track health in response to my lifestyle: daily records of my morning pulse, weight, waist, sexual activity (different measurements), amount of sleep, exercise and my well being. It helps me to know what I am doing right and what I am doing wrong.
