Providing Inservice meetings for healthcare professionals...

When I worked in a nursing home (many years ago) as a CNA, we had to attend regular inservice meetings. These were educational meetings of any variety. I have a friend in another state who is a care provider in homes, and the company she works for also requires attendance at regular inservice meetings. Does anyone know how I would go about offering to be a "provider"? - to go present information about any number of topics, from general benefits of massage for the elderly, to specific ways massage can ease symptoms of arthritis, gout, etc. etc. to self care for the caregivers themselves? What would I charge to be a speaker/demonstrator? I am thinking this would also help me to get into some more of these facilities. I go into a couple very small assisted living facilities, but have a huge one in mind that I'd like to get into, plus others in the area where I've met dead ends so far. I do love working with the elderly, and I enjoy teaching and sharing the wonders of massage therapy.

The paperwork is lengthy (I'm working on our state association's application for CEU's for the american reflexology certification board), but usually good for two years. You could offer a series of seminars/conferences/workshops. Check the local rates for something like this but if you drew a decent crowd you could enjoy a little side-business from your talks.

Thanks for responding. I am not looking to offer CEU's at this time. Here, the CNA's do not have to have any CEU's, and in the assisted living homes the employees do not even necessarily have to be CNA's - I believe many are called "Personal Care Workers" and are just trained on the job. They do have to attend these inservice meetings, which tend to be VERY boring - I remember most were cheerleading attempts to justify the very low wages. You know, the old, "we couldn't POSSIBLY pay you what you are worth, what you provide is INVALUABLE!" Ugh. I would love to provide some interesting information, demos and open discussion for these sweet caregivers. They get paid for the meetings, since they are required, but it would still be so nice for them if the time spent was interesting and fun, AND some of them would become advocates of massage therapy for the elderly, which would benefit my business beyond doing the meetings themselves.

The owner wanted me talk to the CNA's about some basic very light massage for the hands and feet for their patients after their baths when the CNA's are applying lotion. I set it up so the CNA's practiced on each other. I also did a 30 minute guided imagery to help them relax and get to a self help place instead of a give place. It went very well with the higest class having 14 CNA's. The owner contacted me, she paid for all handouts and 2oz lavender sample oil for each person. I think it lasted for about 3 hours and she paid me $200.00 per class. Is this the kind of information you were looking for?

Yes, that is perfect! I did a hand massage "class" pretty much like that for the "caregivers" at an adult day care center last year, and it was fun. It was quite a distance from home, though, and the owner contacted me....I can't figure out who to contact in other facilities. There are plenty of these places around me and I enjoyed that very much. I would like to do a variety of classes.

How did the owner get your name? Have you ever tried to do other types of classes, or at other facilities? Maybe I should just write a letter, enclose my credentials (copy of diploma, etc. etc.) and offer? But - to whom would I address the letters?
