So at this point it seems like these spas are inevitably closing down. I wonder if the owners will just simply relocate elsewhere.

It would be pretty naive to think that the women would just go away.

The women need the income. Instead of the relative safety of a spa, they will be pushed into riskier Indy work. This isn’t about the safety of SW at all but some lame puritanical beliefs.

My guess is they will start working at other spas in the city. The spas with multiple locations might be less impacted for now at least, but yeah this is going to financially impact the ladies heavily.

There are only so many rooms in the spas, so invariably there will be some without a place to work. Not sure about you but I am not likely to drive to the west end as often as I go to Markham/RH. A lot of the MPAs are going to be pushed to the Indy scene.

They prefer the “safety” of a spa environment. Indy work requires a different mindset. A few might do it but I suspect the majority won’t. At most, they might meet up with a few long time clients that they trust.

Let’s see, this time around Bylaw is more serious…even if that’s the case, it’s not the long term solution. Spas might eventually have to go underground, like those underground casinos.

Even then given the situation I would think the women will have to start thinking up a backup plan. Having your income cut on any given day is a scary thought to anyone.

EBC has always been the wild west. One person alone did not cause this. Thinking that is naive.

Years ago bylaw and LE shut it all down. At that time it happened after the raid on the spa in the bowling alley. This time it could be any number of reasons. But mostly I'm sure it was caused by resident complaints.

I don't think so. EBC is not close to residential neighborhood. It's all industrial and commercial businesses except a newly built condo facing Bellagio. It could be complaints from other businesses around here and it's quite embarrassing for City to have spas lining up side by side with City bldg.

Yeah. I agree. But sometimes you have to pay the bills.

Bylaw is governed by the appropriate municipality ie. Richmond hill , Markham. Toronto. Regional provincial and federal issues are different.

The focus on economy has reached an all-time boiling point, and the municipalities have finally decided to do something about this (after letting it sit for so many years). All levels of government (federal, provincial and municipal) are working together to ensure that other countries with whom we are engaged in a trade war (and the populations of those concerned countries *cough*) are following the law of the land here. It's true that they could have taken action a long time ago, but it's no coincidence they have decided to roll up their sleeves now. We're just used to taking things for granted. Corporations doing business in Richmond Hill (along with civilians) are finding the red-light district at EBC an eyesore at this point.

You point up the real problem that caused the chaos in EBC area. Most likely plenty of neighbourhood stores complaining time to time......

The Hudson's Bay Company - literally the oldest corporation in the history of this country - is going out of business. What can we possibly say about these spas? Imagine how embarrassing it looks for those proud Canadians who are watching these Asian-controlled spas thrive under the radar while HBC (a historical landmark) goes bankrupt. They genuinely feel threatened by the lack of principles and ethics (especially now that they hear about us slowly turning into a 51st American state).
