ITEC Massage courses cost vary!

Im looking at starting an ITEC in Massage but have found the same courses vary in cost in my area, one being just over £1000 and another £400 ish! Any idea how come or is it that they do vary depending where?

You might be looking at a private collage as opposed to night school, if you go to a traditional massage collage then you will be Lucky to get training for under a grand, but it will be with people who have been teaching massage for many years, using a traditional approach with lots of hands on tuition.

You can always ask for a prospectus, that should answer your questions.

Whats the best one to go for then if they both offer the same qualification at the end?

Generally you go to the traditional collages to learn things like Remedial and sports injury massage, the courses tend to be more hands on orientated thanthe night school which is more academic A&P oriented.

It will depend on what you wish to do at the end of your training, if you just wish to do general body massage, then you will find ITEC or the other one that is similar, V something or other, then that will sort you.

If you plan to get into the medical side of massage, treating injuries etc, then you should go for Remedial massage training, if you are anywhere near Manchester then I would recommend the Northern Institute of Massage, its been on the go for about 80 years and has been training Remedial massage therapists from all over the world since it was first established.

There isa similarone in London somewhere, I am sure someone will point you in the right direction, but you do pay for the training, but you are qualified and insured to treat muscular/skeletal dysfunctions this way

Good luck choosing between them!

I did my ITEC Holistic Massage and A & P last year at a private college it cost nearly £700 (they have now put the price up to £850). Although we all passed, the support we got was awful. We all had to provide our own couches and our own bodies every week and the tutors couldn't keep track of what we had learnt from one week to the next!

This year I am doing ITEC Reflexology at Adult Ed. It was only £200 (my old colloege would have charged me £650!) and it is so much better! It's organised and the tutoring is excellent.

I suppose the only way of knowing is if you can find someone who has done the course before. Whereabouts in the country are you?

I am Nottingham.

To be honest I do not want to goon the medical side but more on the alternative therapist side alongside reflexology, crystal healing, etc.

A&P wise I have an HND in Animal Science which actually fully covered human A&P too.

Sorry, I am at the wrong end of the country to advise you as to where is good! Have you tried the regional forum part of HP?

Does your HND let you off doing the ITEC A & P, 'cos that is a major chunk of study! I thought I would be alright last year 'cos I've got a degree in Biomedical Science, but when it came to it we had never really done much Anatomy, just the Physiology so there was still a lot to get through!

I think most points have been covered. What can be useful is to ask to talk to the tutor or at the very least get their name and look online to see who they are, you may feel that one tutor appeals to you more than another - or you might find that the same tutor is teaching both courses!!

It's often about funding and I know a lot of funding for therapy courses has been withdrawn in the last year, so it's had a huge impact on the uptake of places.
