Homeopath recommendation? advice ... HELP!!!

Can anyone recommend a good homeopath in the North Shields area of Tyneside?

Also, does anyone here know anything about the Sweet Thyme Therapy Centre in North Shields?

I am trying to find someone for my sister to go to & from past experience I would rather go on personal recommendation if at all possible.

To give a very brief history of the problem she was bullied at school (she's now almost 30) and this has had a huge effect on a lot of her life. She is also suffering from post-natal depression, which she has kind of admitted, went to a homeopath I know once (unfortunately I live a fair distance away in the midlands), started to get somewhere with both issues but hasn't followed it up. Partly because this particular homeopath isn't anywhere near her, partly (I think) because she doesn't like to discuss how she feels or open up, and so doesn't want to go to someone else that she doesn't really know? I guess it's a kind of 'if i don't talk about it, it'll go away' theory.

I really want to support her (and her family) as much as I can, as I know her partner feels he is at his wits end trying to cope with her negativity - she constantly puts herself down & says how cr*p she is etc etc. I just don't want to see their relationship break down because of this, when I am pretty sure it can be dealt with.

so...if anyone has any other suggestions of how to deal with this, I would be very grateful. The trouble is I can't really just jump in with 'look you need help' as I am pretty sure it would be counter-productive. in other words ... HELP!!!

Hello- yes I can understand why you want a personal recommendation but a couple of things strike me.
As a Homeopath myself (and you can also find a very stringently assessed one through the Society of Homeopaths!), I find that some people that are 'persuaded' to come to me, often find the treatment of limited value. I think this is because sometimes there seems a 'mismatch' between practitioner and patient, if you see what I mean. They might not've been drawn to contact the particular person if it'd been left to them- and I do think that we're each attracted to different therapists, perhaps without realising it.

Also, different Homeopaths will work in different ways. Personally, nobody that comes to me is put under any pressure to say any more than they are ready or feel comfortable to do at the time. Why should we all be able to open up to complete strangers?! Despite this, there is always enough in the consultation to prescribe on,and due to homeopathy's holistic nature, core issues can be addressed without bearing our souls about them- and the treatment unfolds in time.

Lastly, perhaps the person in question would prefer a different therapy, and maybe a low key, 'softly' softly' approach to discussing this with her would be more helpful? What does she want- rather than what does everyone around her want? Maybe even email consultations would suit her better...or a visit to her GP....a massage..... I know this may onlybe working towards the real issues, but it's a start....And then, she may not want to do anything...which is hard for those around her!

Thank you very much for your reply Hom, I totally agree with everything you have said.

I only thought about finding a homeopath nearer her as I know it is a therapy that she is comfortable with, having been to see the guy near me. I very much appreciate that different therapies are better for different people and would never drag my sister to someone she didn't want to see. I also very much understand that you are drawn to certain therapists more than others. I have experienced this many times myself. and in fact my reiki master and acupuncturist are 2 of the most life-changing and wonderful people I have come into contact with, so I know I was supposed to 'find' them!

That said, sometimes my sister just needs a little push in the right direction i.e. she will talk about doing something, so I will usually find out more for her, and then if it's right she will do it.

With regards to the little we know about homeopaths I think we (my sister and I) like the fact that the core issues can indeed be addressed without having to bear the soul! and I just wanted to find a few names for her that were recommended, so she could then make the ultimate decision herself.

yes, I do hear what you're saying about your sister- and interestingly, you've already said enough about her for any homeopath to be able to at least start prescribing remedies that might help!
Perhaps you could point out to herthat she might need quite a few sessons to get the results she wants. Although there might be some improvement initially, some of her issues go back a long way and she would probably need more than one or two remedies to really resolve them. -Maybe even a year of monthly appts for example.
It might be that her feelings about herself are so negative that she also feels she doesn't deserve that much attention Some people find something like homeopathy a really good support and therapeutic in itself, aside from the remedies, but if you feel you should be able to cope without the help, you might see it from a different angle.
Another thing that might help would be for her to find a homeopath who communicates by email before appts are made, so she could 'sound them out' or ask more general questions. Or someone that gives an initial free short appt.

Thanks for all your advice, Hom, that's really kind.
I think she would like to go and see someone, i guess it's just mustering up the courage and energy to do so in the first instance.
i also think she is aware that it would take quite a few sessions as we discussed this the other day. we have quite a lot of experience of complementary therapies in our family, so we are used to the fact that they are not usually quick fixes! (which we like as it actually gets to the root of the problem rather than just fixing what's on the surface)
