Why don't children need the vaccine, when they say every year before flu season starts, that it is most important for children and seniors should get the flu shot? Doesn't the virus affect everyone? I've heard of young healthy athletes dieing of Covid.

not yet but i will be getting my first shot next week. My company offered a pop up vacinne clinic earlier this month. I didn't go because there were so much uncertainty (i.e. whether they will book me an appointment for second shot, what type of vacinne). I was like, meh. I can wait a couple more weeks.

Usually kids do not need to get shots because they have a growing and robust immune system. By being exposed to something their immune system kicks in and builds its own defenses. This is better than getting a shot in most cases as it helps their immune system develop. For the flu I thought the people who were encouraged to get the shot were elderly and those with a compromised immune system.

The shots are meant to do a couple of things: 1) protect the person from the severe affects if thy get the flu; and 2) help reduce the transmission of the flu from person to person.

The flu can spread like a wildfire in schools and the kids can then take it home to the parents. Getting kids the shot helps reduce that from happening
