I dont mind them most of the time, But there was one little fu*ker in pattaya who was about 16, He was not selling anything, Just looking for money and he had a little baby on his shoulders who was not even 1, And everynight he used to find us and come over without fail and he just would not leave you alone, At first we would be really nice to him with the usual "Mai Kap Pun Krap" and then onto "Me oiw Krap" and then "Me oiw" but after a while, We were like just fu*k off, But the little fu*ker would not leave you alone and even tried to dip my mate, Not only that but he would come up behind us and give us a punch into the arm and then kick you into the back of the legs, Believe me he was lucky he had that kid on his shoulders, Honestly I rarely lose my temper anymore nowadays but he just got to me, Anyway one night he just kept it up and gave my mate a slap into the back of the head, And he just turned around and grabbed him by the throat and told him he would take his head off if he done it again.

Anyway he threatened us and off he went, And after reading all the story's on this board I was a bit wary of what could happen, And then this bloke came up behind me but I copped him first and me and my mate and another bloke we had met stood up and we were towering over this guy and his mate, And then the little fu*ker who started all this crap came from behind this guy and started talking in thai, Pointing at us but after about 30secs, The bloke he was after bringing over (Looked like his dad or uncle, about 35/40) just shouted something at him and told him to go, And they all walked off and fortunatly that was the end of it, And thankfully we didnt see them after that..

But in saying all of that, That was just an Isolated incident, And all the rest took no for an anwser, Well at least until they seen you next that is..55555..

However, I would not take the same course of action with a Thai person, a nice smile and polite no, and they move on, with no harm done. Different attitude from me in a different world I guess.

I understand your situation, but grabbing a kid or any locals is not in your best interest/favor. ( excluding tourist, I have knock-out a German guy for acting like a bad-ass with his hard liquor before in BKK ) Easy solution is to sit down with a TG and enjoy your beer without DRAMAS. If that kid bothered you the Girl can easily handle him ( usually sitting with a female companion no one ever both you ). I'm fortunate not to have problem in Thailand with the locals ( Thais in general ) except for one time I almost too this BG's head off, here's the story. There was this bar that open late that everyone seems to attend after other 2am clubs closed. This bar is in Patpong BKK ( on a corner in the middle of Patpong ) I forgot the name. Well there is also a strip joint right next to it ( also a corner spot ) with lots of good looking girls and a great place to visit as I often visited every chance im in BKK. One time I hooked up with this bg girl ( rating 8 attractiveness ) and paid the barfine of something like 600 - 1000 baht I can't recall. She took me to a room down the street upstairs, we were in an elevator with a FEW( about 5 ) thai guys. I wasn't intimidated but cautious ( knowing the street of LA very well, been there done that ). Those Thai guys started a couple of comments like " You muscle, futball? , where are you from ? " as they stared at my physique ( I'm 180 lbs lean muscular, work out with 315 bench press of 15 reps on steroid with a background of hard knocks in LA and martial arts. ) Anyway make the story short, I had had good sex with this girl ( she was like the hard hustle type ) but the sex was good.. We (she ) never talk about PRICE as it was a usual thing for me anyway. So when the session was over, I got in the shower, came out dressed and hand over $ 3000 baht ( briefly $ 78 usd ) as we walked out toward the elevator, she replied with a very unappreciative comment - " cheap man ". As I have no problem handling 5 skinny thai guys if physical action needed but knowing the streets very well, I had to hold back my ego. I looked at this girl with a smile but deep in my thoughts I actually would like to choke her out or maybe it would be nice to rip the skin covering the outer layer of her face. Anyhow when you're not in your neighborhood, DO not attempt any undesire confrontation. I deal with many gangs in LA in my early street life before and asian gang are very vicious. If you want to a knife in your kidney or elsewhere during your vacation, it's simply not worth fighting for nothing :bangin: :bangin:

I think AB makes a good point here. I don't mind the sellers who accept it when you tell them , "Mai ow," and even thought it is annoying, I understand when they go on with a little cajoling and persuading. They are are salespeople and that is just them trying to make their pitch, as it is what they do for a living. But when they start badgering, poking, pulling, and such, hanging around for some length of time, and just refusing to take no for an answer, then that is too much.

And also, it seems like it is the kids who are often like that and have no sense about it. Kids should be at home at night!

I think everyone hates telemarketers! But why not have a little fun with them. When they call and ask, "Can I speak to Mr. Jaybee?" I put on my best "white trash" accent, and, slurring my words, say "Damn!! You juss misst 'em! He wen' aht a coupla minutes ago, gone to da store fer a coupla six packs an' a pint! We was runnin' low. Whas yah numbah, I'll ha'im call ya whin ee gits back. Hey, man, you know where a brutha can git some good smoke roun heah?"

Or if it's a gal, I just ignore her sales pitch, and keep asking her what she looks like, where she lives, how old she is, what she's doing Friday night, etc."

It's not long for they hang up one me and I'm laughing my ass off!!

Yup, that sounds like the scamps.

The bar owner is called Pay and her bar is right next to the RUOK bar in the "swamp".

Ritchie (from Liverpool) is also a very cool bar owner in Kata who knows these kids well and always gives them some money when they come round. They seem to live well, but I don't really know.

If you're a Kata fan, that probably means you are sleeping with all my girlfriends

I'm there from July 17th for about a month. Maybe see you there.

With Temarketers the best thing to do is ask them to hold on for just a second, go back to watching TV or whatever then after 3-5 minutes go back to the phone to see if their still on the line if so laugh at them then hang up, or ask them to hold on a little longer the baby is crying, etc.

With flower sellers if I have a friend that just came from another country to visit I buy flowers otherwise I don't. This a small annoyance in a beautiful country and as Livin Los said they are good eyes on the street, so are the BBQ boys. Buy the BBQ give it to the dogs as much of the Bangla BBQ is Mai aroi but by doing this they will give you all the updates on what's going on with so and so.

What is even more unuseful is the wooden motorcyle the guy wants to sell you on the beach. Now let me think when I wake up and say "honey let's go to the beach get your tanning lotion, swim googles, ipod and you know what I think we can buy a wooden motorcycle while we are there wouldn't that look good on top of the TV". I would just love to lug that around with us the rest of the day.
