First job, first day...could use an ear.

Well, now its been about 4 months and I feel a whole new person. It is exactly as you guys said - you can't please everyone. I have had in the time 2-3 sessions that went poorly, but actualy every one of them was a painful learning experience. I learned things from each one and improved my massage but moreso my communication skills.

Good to see this update and glad to see you are taking things so in stride. It's hard to do sometimes, isn't it? But so much better both for us as therapists and for our clients.

It's good to hear your getting your confidence back. I missed this thread the first time around so I will share my "can't please everybody" story now.

I had only been practicing for a month or two when I got this male client that wanted a DT. Well deep tissue is one of my strong points, but no matter what I did he kept asking for "more pressure" or "deeper DEEPER". In my inexperience I tried so hard to please him that I eventually began using bad body mechanics and began to hurt myself just so I could dig in a little more and he would be satisfied.

In the end he said it was a good massage but he would have liked more pressure :roll: . A week later he came in for another massage. Before we got started he informed me that i had gone to deeply in the last session and now he was bruised and he didn't think that I should have been so rough on him. :shock:

That session he asked for DT again but I only used medium pressure. Same as the previous session he kept asking for more pressure, but I refused saying "I dont want to bruise you" over and over.

He wanted to reschedule but I refused, I said "I do not have the skills necessary for the type of massage that you want (who could!) and referred him to a local male therapist.

No matter how awesome your skills are, not everyone is going to like you.
