Cherry was correct insofar that everyone should wear a poppy. If it matters, he was also correct when he observed that some communities tend not to wear it. But he's supposed to be a professional broadcaster and he went and said something he should have known would get him fired in today's world. That makes him incompetent.

As for charges of discrimination, of course he's guilty. He was a fuckhead to express himself as he did because he branded all immigrants as disrespectful of veterans. When you assume you know what someone is like because of the group they belong to, you're discriminating in the most ignorant way. I've tried to say this simply enough for even the OP to understand.

Let me start by saying I agree with you. The poppy is owned by the Legion, and all sales money goes to them. Precious little goes to help veterans, so buying one or not does little. I don’t agree with the memes about housing all homeless veterans because many fall right back into the holes they were in before they enlisted. It has nothing to do with their service. The ones who are truly injured or disabled by their service are the ones we as a society should be supporting. Government policies are required for that support. The poppy sales can’t and shouldn’t take their place.

I have not said anything against treating soldiers properly with good pensions etc. I think that would be the right thing to do. I doesn't mean that putting aside a day to recognize past contributions is a bad thing. As I said, two things can be true without one invalidating the other.

No i agree with you..putting aside a day is cool..its some who say not wearing a poppy is such a sin or something bothers me i guess.I rather next year instead of a poppy, give your change to a vet with no legs and needs a new wheelchair.Thanks pal
