I am picking the Toronto Maple Leafs to win the Stanley Cup.

The Leafs top two lines are the best in the league, by far. No one will be able to match their scoring ability. That's how the Oilers won 4 Stanley cups in the 80s. They outscored everyone that tried to match them.

With the importance of defense, why would David Poile trade away Subban? Easy to propose a trade, it's difficult to convince another GM to give away a player you want.

Subban also costs $9 million a year.

Auston Matthews is an absolute Beast.

He scored 2 goals tonight in the win, including the OT winner.

If he stays healthy, he will score 50 goals for sure!

Let me ask you if you have the choice Subban at 9 M or Nylander at 8 M ? The answer is clear we need D men and quarterback to go far in the playoffs

Ok how much Marner should get next years 8 or 9 M ? Leafs won't be able to keep all 3 marner Matthew n Nylander

Marner is a complimentary player, not a star. He was great in Junior because he has skill, but Junior is a 'Soft' league and Marner could be a star in a soft league. He reminds me of Joe Juneau in his style of play - a passer instead of a scorer. And with Marner, 40% of his points last year came on the Power Play. So, at even strength, he isn't overly productive and he is never going to be a big goal scorer, as his shooting percentage is 11%. He is decent on the face-off though, as he won 52% of his faceoffs taken and he isnt really a Centre anyways. That is quite impressive actually.

The NHL is a very tough league. Not as tough as it was in the 1990s or the 1970s too, but still, bigger guys that hit harder and push players around much more than in Junior are everywhere in the NHL. Marner only scored 14 goals last year when the game was at even strength. 14 goals when skating 5-on-5 over an 82 game schedule is not impressive at all. His plus minus, at - 1, was also not good considering he got lots of power play time.

So, Marner needs to play with a talented player in order to produce in a bigger, tougher league. He could never carry a line on his own. Marner is worth $6 million max. His 20 goals a season aren't that hard to come buy. Even Tie Domi scored 15 goals in a season when he played with Sundin and I don't think anyone can argue that Domi is a skilled, talented player. 15 to 20 goals can be had by anyone if they play with good linemates. I love Domi and he was a great fighter, but again, 15 to 20 goals isn't anything to brag about.

Doesn't Marner have a higher points per game average than Nylander? The Leafs just saved about 3 million per year by unloading Mcelliney, Carrick, and Pickard. Once they're done paying Kessel, they'll save a total of 4 million per year. Plus the cap will surely go up. Will we keep these star players on our team? We can, and we will.

Ursus, Marner is a top line player we can't afford to lose. Marner didn't play on the same line as Matthews last year. He was actually playing on the fourth line for most of the first half of last season. And he was still first for points. That tells you how great he is.

Ursus doesn't have a clue. Marner is a star player. Not in the level of a Matthews or Tavares but he is a star nonetheless. Calling him a complementary player is ignorant.

Anderson had an off night last night he is still the key MVP on that team no other goalies in the league see more rubber during game than him hope he doesn't get hurt ask Don Cherry he will tell you
The leafs are going to be one if not the most exciting team to watch this year just give them time to gel together

Auston scored another goal tonight. That's 4 goals so far, in 3 games. Maybe he can score 60 goals this year.

He is a Beast Supreme.

Behind Gilmour and Sundin, he has to be the 3rd best Leaf of the modern era. Gimour is my ATF.

No matter how well Auston plays, if we don't get better play from our goalie, we won't get far. Goal tending is key, regardless of sport. And our goalie sucks ass. He is too slow side-to-side.

Auston Matthews ended up scoring 2 goals against Chicago and now has 5 in 3 games. Tavares got a hat-trick. Matthews now has 8 points in 3 games so far - 5 goals and 3 Assists.

I knew it. We have great scoring ability with our top 2 centres and we can outscore any team.

Now we just need some defence and goal-tending and we can finally hoist the cup. I wish we still had Bibeau. Never should have traded him. Played 2 games for us as a Rookie - 927 save percentage and then we let him go for nothing. Ridiculous. He is no worse than Andersson and he would only cost us $650,000 per year.
