Yes, but MTV and Much Music catered to more mainstream tastes. That more sappy stuff got played often and brought Whitesnake to mainstream attention and the fame that followed. The harder stuff didn’t get played except for in that 1 hour slot a week, or whatever that was, dedicated to Metal. Without that sappy stuff only diehard metal heads would have known who Whitesnake is.
It’s been that way since video. It’s not good, deep or original music getting played all the time, it’s the more popular assembly line music being pushed out over the airwaves and TV sets.
This band hasn’t got the wider attention it deserves as they never wanted to go mainstream. But they influenced some of the biggest names in metal and industrial. This song is more relevant now than almost 25 years ago.
