I made a last minute decision to visit CR after spending the Holidays taking care of everyone, excluding myself. I was simply fedup with the materialistic season, and the culture of "give me, give me" with no appreciation. I decided to get away. I cashed in frequent flier miles, boarded United business class and five hours later from Newark, I was in warm SJO. There were very little passengers at the immigration lines. Ten minutes from arrival, I was outside. I took at cab to the Del Rey. My first impression compared to my first visit in 2003, was that the quantity and quality of the chicas had gone down a notch. Gone are the intoxicating Columbians. In 2003, there were literally 200 chicas on a saturday night. This time, there were around 75 girls. Majority were ticas, compared to the past when there were more foreign chicas. There are still some incredibly beautiful ticas. A few beautiful Dominicans were scattered around. There was a Dominican that had Asian features. She agreed for BBBJ, photos, everything at $100. I was exhausted by the time I came across her. More male ticos were in the DR than previously. This is a new phenomenon. How can they afford these chicas at $60 - $100 a pop? The asking price was the obligatory $100 with no conviction that this would be paid. Many are simply willing to settle for $80, including a night of dancing at the Key Largo. I heard from many of the girls that the economy is in a free fall. There are less tourists and more competition. There are many semipros, ticas with regular jobs in the daytime who moonlight at night to get the bills paid. I observed some ticas that came to work as early as 10am, and at 3am, they had not earned any money. I had to purchase food for a few friends because they complain of hunger from the long hours of work with no hits. Del Rey rooms may be $55/night, but they will nail you in the drinks and food department. Chicken Fingers and fries, a small bowl of rice and soup were each $20. Miller lite was around $6. A glass of Margarita with Jose Cuervo will drill a hole of $10 in your pocket. The bartenders, as usual, were slow to bring your change. This has not changed since 2003. The Gulgh is not for the budget traveller. They may have to look somewhere else. The girls that worked in the daytime are willing to go with you for around $60. A stunner at night will settle for $80 with a few hours of dance, drinks, and food at the Key Largo. Many are willing to do BBBJ and have photos taken which were rare in the past. All of my ticas were from the del rey and ranged from $60 (daytime) to $80 night time. During the three nights I spend there, I had about 10 ticas. Some will try to hurry you along, but make sure that you negotiate everything upfront, including what is expected, length of service. I never paid upfront. Payment is made at the conclusion of the service. Many will do their best to try to please you. Remember, the man who has the gold, rules!As a friend of mine puts it: a bowl of rice is not for the hungry, but for the owner of the rice. I hope this trip report is of help to someone. I did not get to visit other places, unfortunately. I simply had my fill at the DR. I went to San Pedro mall for a pedicure and manicure, but that was about it. Between sex, I was on my computer doing some work that I brought along. The internet access is reliable in the lobby. I will post some photos and comments in the VIP section, because I wish to protect their privacy from public curiosity. Many of the girls this time are willing to give you their real names, telephone numbers, and email addresses for you to keep in touch. Be nice and humane to them; they will show you the world. The hardcore features and behavior are down a bit. They all desire to come to the US or go to Europe. CR is becoming financial hell for some of these ladies.

Interesting observations, Korpu - always good to hear others observations, and get some on the ground intel - While I gather from your post you are fairly new to CR, I'd like to make some suggestions that would help you enjoy future trips:

Since I'm concluding you stayed at HDR, try a different hotel next trip (Sportsmans would be great b/c you could meet a knowledgeable wingman - Hotel Little Havana, Dunn Inn, anyplace but the HDR)

Invest in a "tour" Contact Bilko, Pops, One Lucky Dog, PuraVidaTransport - even BangBang57 via PM and see if they are available - it would broaden your Horizon's more than you could imagine and open up your eyes to the world far beyond the HDR/KL

Not to beat it to death, because I think you get it - the HDR is a large venue, but certainly not the only one - so you need to try other places - I say this b/c I think your comments are directed at what you experienced at the DR, and if you knew other places, your conclusions might be different - although for the most part I think you are correct, less travelers, poor economy in the USA, some girls have gotten the memo - I also don't believe many, given CR's society and norms are really "semi pros - not if they are hanging out at the DR - I could go on and on, but I'll just leave it there.

If you are going to make a long post, break it up with paragraphs please - makes it so much easier to read

I know sometimes the Ticas are afraid of the Colombianas, but man I'll tell you I think they are far more passionate en la cama at least the ones I've been with, even years ago, I still think of fondly.

Then again piss the wrong one off and She can fly her 16 Nephew in to shoot you ...
