scoliosis or not? please help

hi.. following a recent thread i made about my back hurting. i went to see a chiropractor. thinking maybe they could help.

i had some x-rays taken. (i have these x-rays) i'm still unsure if i can get help for my problem. and i am still very clueless as to the problem. my only guess at the moment is Herniated disc.

i have sciatica. (only very infrequently. and not painful at all. just a little numbness.) i do have back pain though which triggers it. not very bad at the moment. but it still is limiting my ability to function normally.

the x-rays showed that i had a slight curve in my spine near my lumbar region. i think the doctor said something about mild scoliosis. i wanted to know if that can be corrected without surgery. i thought thats what a chiropractor does. but he didn't touch me and told me to get an mri. they are very expensive here. so i will have to wait and see.

can and if someone could have a look at the x-rays to tell me if maybe there are signs of disc compression. and or if the curve can be corrected? i would very much appreciate it. just put a comment below if you would like to take a look.. i have the x-ray images on my computer .. thank you so much..


oh.. and is there any chance this curve could be the cause of my sciatica and back pain?

I have mild scoliosis too, and suffer with sciatica and lower back pain and aches quite frequently. A chiropractor helps with posture and helping to realign bits and pieces, however i was told my back would never really be straight again, however by undertaking certain excercises and seeing a chiropracter etc it helps manage the pain and discomfort.

Sorry i don't have definitive answers, i just understand what you may be going through

thank you for your reply gemsarah. to be honest though.. the curve in my spine isn't as bad as i thought previously. so it might not be scoliosis... just an example of the curve.. i'll try and draw a demo..

and thats the lower lumbar.. it's not really out.. but it is out enough from center to worry me.. can spinal manipulation correct this? a few big cracks and it's re-aligned? i want my normal life back i'm not getting my hopes up.

and the sciatica.. it really.. well. it's not really sciatica.. i mean. i didn't really feel sciatica with the pain at all until a week or two ago.. and i've had the back pain for about 2 months.. so i'm confused. please help.

I would see a kinesiologist and get to the source of the problem. Do you drink plenty of water?

I've been seeing a chiropodist for a few weeks now and I can tell you that it's a pretty drawn out treatment. (I had the same symptoms as you more or less, plus RSI in my right arm from this **** keyboard probably!) But the chiropractor is absolutely great and is really putting me right. If you can afford it, I'd say find a good chiropractor as soon as you can. My treatments are sometimes a tiny bit painful but I can feel how much good they're doing me.

I have slight scoliosis and it wasn't spotted as a child so now it's 'untreatable' as the spine can't be straightened but it can be managed.
Physiotherapy helped me initially but I believe something like the Alexander technique would really help, or perhaps pilates, to strengthen the core muscles.

Thank you everyone who has replied so far, it's very concerning to feel like you are the only one in the world with a problem. it's very comforting to know that so many people have gone through the same ordeal as you and in any case, are willing to offer their personal opinions, advice and grievances for you. i know how hard it is first hand to suffer terribly.. and many people on this board know the exact same pain and feelings of hopelessness that accompanies this. My best regards to everyone on these forums, hoping that everyone has a chance to recover, to heal, to have a general all-round feeling of wellbeing, it's very nice to have been guided by people who honestly care. and it's very refreshing to have so many people in today's every man for himself world. to give some recognition to those who need it.

I honestly congratulate and thank all of the power users and super mods at this forum, if only but a simple "Get Well Soon" message can be a major lift up on someone's horrible day. Thank you all..

p.s. still unsure of the pain i am experiencing, but the outlook for now is very positive, thanks again all.
