As I pointed out, you would expect that mortality rates would be much higher in subsahran Africa. No surprise there.

But what it really surprising, almost shocking, is that the Muslim countries, all of which, except Iran, have pretty healthy, and in some cases, very high fertility rates(and birth rates) have very low death rates, in general(Afghanistan being the glaring exception).

Out of the 15 countries with the lowest death rates, 12 of 15(including the 9 lowest) are Muslim countries.

So, not only do Muslim countries have higher birth and fertility rates than most Western countries, but they also have lower death rates in most cases!

This is really surprising! :surprised: Especially when you see areas such as Palestine, West Bank, and Gaza Strip with very high birth rates and very low death rates! mg:

Yes, we do live longer, and that accounts for population growth, even in countries with very low fertility rates.

And it is nice that we have low infant mortality rates! :great: However, the low infant mortality rates make very little difference in the big picture. In countries where women are having 3 times as many children, and 10% of them die, then they are still having 2.7 times more children who lived. Looking at the net differences between birth rates and death rates makes this very clear.


That is to be expected. As the number of immigrants increases, their high fertitlity rates raise the average fertility rates in the Western countries. Because they are still relatively small minorites, the overall increases are small, usually in the range of .02 children per woman.

What you're failing to take into account is the socio-economic conditions. As a nation becomes richer, the need for more children per parent is lessened. You also assume that a higher population growth is a good thing(TM) when these nations are already suffering from overpopulation in comparison to industry/employment, infrastructure and resources.

With more resources per person developed nations are in considerably less danger then you would think. In order for population growth to be a good thing(TM) it must be sustainable, meaning that employment, education, health care (incl clean water) must also grow to support the population, many of the "fastest growing" nations already cannot provide for the people they have, let alone the one's being born.

As for the whole Muslim fear mongering thing, I remember 20 years back when the local racist society said the Asian immigrants would take my job and I'd never be able to feed my family. Well that never happened, the Asian immigrants adapted to our society. 20 years ago, the Northern Irish were considered the worlds greatest terrorists. Who's to say what things will look like in 20 years, I'd put money on the Muslim immigrants having children, just like the Asian immigrants, having them go to the same schools as local kids, just like the Asian immigrants.

In Australia there's been an amount of racist fear mongering that we've just ignored, They said the same things about the Asians before the Muslims and about the Greeks before them, and the Irish before them, the Aborigines have always been a popular target and it's all been proven to be BS.

In 20 years we could be looking at the dangers of Mormon extremism, after all they have the same religious conversion mandate as the hard-line Muslims, all it would take is a bit of the ultraviolence.

I have to agree with you here marc( brothel type atmos), although each to there own, from my personal experiences i have once from recollection taken two girls from the same bar, this bar being my local for a number of years and to this day one of the girls who happens to be the main cashier??? still wont acknowledge me, apart from that it also made me feel a little weird too, sitting at the bar with my latest conquest whilst the girl i shagged last night is serving me beer...But thats just me, and like i said, eack to there own.
