How much does the MT see ?

Just curious, I get my massages at a MT school for a very reasonable price ... I have always wondered how much of my "privates" are seen by the MT in a normal session ? sometimes it feels like I am exposed ... I should say that I am a male and that all my therapists have been extremely professional ... I have never felt like there was anything intentionally exposed . Like I say, just wondering.

None. Sometimes you may feel air around the drape, but if your therapists are professional, they will not be seeing anything.

I will co-sign what breathe said. Sometimes there might feel like space, but nothing would be exposed.

I also concur that your therapist sees nothing. Keep in mind their "line of sight," they are above you looking down so even if there is a slight gap under the drape it is well out of their field of vision.

I used to wonder about this too. When I first started getting massages I was very embarrased if I felt something was showing and sometimes it does feel like more is showing than really is. I have learned that my MT is all business and probaly not interested in seeing anything anyway. I guess it is possible that something may show from time to time for a brief moment but you will learn not to worry about it. Enjoy you massage!

But seriously. maintaining coverage is something most therapists strive very hard for. and students being evaluated in clinic would be trying very hard.

I agree the MT shouldn't be able to see anything, combination of line of sight, looking from above, usually dimmer lighting than in an office etc. If you have students working on you, they will be trying to keep everything well covered, which may end up feeling like they are fiddling with the linen a lot as they make you secure.

If you find you can't relax because you feel something might be on show, you can always keep your underwear on (though don't go to your appointment wearing boxers or neck to knee type underwear ) You need to be undressed to your level of comfort.

No, that's other places, not CA...and we laugh at the people who are really tiny. Like get in big groups, have parties, and share pictures. Sometimes we even have contests and post things on the internet.

Actually, sometimes we send out fliers advertizing about our little constest, the smallest and largest get a free massage. It brings in a lot of new clients that we wouldn't have normally had.

It's really great for bringing in great, wonderful people, that are truely concerned for their health.

I am sorry, but I don't think that as professional therapists there should be any fun poked at a question like this (making jokes or sarcasm) on a board which answers clients questions.

Yes, of course as MT's we are allowed to joke and laugh like everyone else in the world - but on a professional forum with a specific question and answer section for those who may potentially become our clients or some other MT's clients, I find this to be more harm than good.



Of course, this is my personal opinion and others may feel differently. Not all of my opinions are held by everyone else, but at this point I feel it needs to be stated. :?

I agree, professionalism is very important, but also, comments like that, which clearly were not serious, you sometimes can't take it seriously.

At times, you have to make jokes, especially about this sexual stuff we always get as MTs. I've did the serious thing, especially when first out of school, and got jokes about it all the time. I did NOT appreciate it.

Then I realized, if I kept it up, I would drive myself insane, so now, I make jokes about it, even with my clients sometimes, unless they are truely concerned, like jwhets was, and which I answered his quesiton. It's my method of handeling things, because if a client is joking with me, and I get all ticked off and say something seriously, it puts me and the client in different places, and makes them feel weird.

It's my method of dealing with stuff, and I understand if you think it's inappropriate, and I apologize to anyone for that.

It's just my way, of getting through life!

This is a "Clients Ask Questions of MT's" Forum. As such, if someone is hesitant to see an MT because they don't know if they are going to end up being "checked out"- and then come here to ask about that --- a joke is just in bad taste. That was what I was commenting to. Other than that, what you do in your office with your clients, naked eye, is going to be your concern. I don't think the question presented or my comment had to do with what you joke about in your office.

I don't want a client to ever even potentially WONDER if I am going to look at their private regions when draped.

There is no reason to let that be something the client has to begin to worry about.

BTW, naked eye, I am not trying to give you a hard time, and re-reading this post, I can see where it may come across this way, but please trust me, that I am not trying to be mean. I am just trying to explain what I meant and replying to you, since you made the response to me. *warm smile*
