Going broke over this hobby!

This is getting out of control. I try to budget funds for this hobby but continually go over. I can't keep going on this way. I find myself not having money for food, clothing, etc. Help.
How can I stay within my budget?

Dude, we can always joke that this hobby is addictive and stuff. But, when you start saying that you don't have enough money for food, then I'd say you need to learn how to budget better. If you can't stay within your budget, then you have a problem with self discipline. That will require more help than what we could give you on these boards.

It's an addiction...whether it is a shift in personal values a la fuzzy thumper or money or whatever...you need to find the right motivation that works for you to escape the addiction.

Good luck...but beware...I think it has to be all or nothing...don't think this is an addiction that allows you to be slightly pregnant...i.e. participate part time...you'll end up like the drunk at the bar convincing the guy next to him that he really doesn't need this drink. or this one, or this one...

Bruce the simple answer is when the itch hits, pull out little bruce and tire it out dude. When your done, put 50 bucks in your right hand. Later that evening the rub and tug itch hits again, now use the left hand while thinking of let's say ummm cameron. Using the left might make you think it really is a stranger doing the deed. OK, now slip your left palm another 50 bucks. There you go instead of being out 100-150 you have just made 100. Don;t forget to write a review and be careful what you post about the palm sisters. Ok Bruce I have several suggestions.

Your desire to hit the parlours even though you can't afford it is nothing to laugh at. Not having money for food, clothes? Ouch!
The hobby is supposed to be something you do occassioinally to relax, not to stress yourself to death!

My first suggestion is to download some good porn, dub some tapes. Before you want to go to the rub parlour just tell yourself, " ok I'll go right after I jerk off." Odds are you the second after orgasm the need to hit the MP will be greatly reduced.

After a while you'll find a week has past. then another. Watch your bank account rise again, and chanel your energy somewhere else.It's like cigarettes, once you start puffing just one, you'll start up. maybe down the line you can control this thing, but not now, so cold turkey.

Additions tend to be an anxiety release due to other problems in life. Unfortunately, addictions soon cause much more anxiety then they relieve. Stay positive. This should work itself out. The suffering/pain you are dealing with now will help you to avoid these things down the road. This process might be a long one. Don't look for overnight fixes.

I never got to the point of not being able to buy food or clothes but I did get to a point where I was spending a pile of money. Back in Feb-Mar I was going to MP's 3-4 times a week, sometimes Fri-Sat-Sun and another day sometime during the week. That adds up real fast, 260 here 140 there. It was crazy, so I understand your problem Bruce.

For a start, you should forget about setting a budget. You will exceed it because the more you go the more you will want to go. Set your budget at zero and force yourself not to go. Do this for at least a couple months. Over time the urge will subside and you'll be able to control it. If you have friends that you feel comfortable talking about your problem with, do it. If they are your friends they can be a big help. When you get the urge call a friend instead and go out for a drink or whatever.

To be honest, hanging around on massageplanet.net has not been a problem for me at all. I wouldn't call what I had an addiction (it was too easy to break), but it was an obsession and I now have it under control.

I've also noticed that being in the city, with all the activity and hot chicks makes it hard to think of something other than sex. I had to go to Sarnia for work. That killed the urge for a good week.

Rev is right - go cold turkey and simply gut it out. Try to find something to fill your time. If you admit that you have a problem and have lost control, you are half way there.

It's like booze & cigarettes. Once you are addicted cutting back doesn't work. In fact quitting completely is in many ways easier than trying to control it.

As with any "addiction" you have to want to quit. If not then forget it.

I took a "sabbatical" for six months and found it just a little too easy. The reason was that I had a more fulfilling substitute. If you can't fulfil that void in other ways then it would be tough, as you will possibly weaken at some point. Quitting the boards was another story ( possibly that void was not being fulfilled entirely or possibly I just missed all you wackos - I didn't really want to quit the boards, I suppose ) I think the boards only tend to "feed" the hobby while you are actually in the cycle. At least , in my case.

As Rev says, it does get easier and complete abstinence is the key. Getting over the first weeks is the hardest part, but once you break that cycle you'll be surprised how easy it can get.

A few months back I lost control and I justified it, as we tend to do, by telling myself I won't have as much time in the upcoming months. So, I gained control partly because I was just too fuckin busy, but I knew it would break the cycle and hence my reason for going on a rampage previous to that. ( almost every second day & my visa is still hurting from it )

You really have to analyse what you expect from this "hobby" and ask yourself if it is, in fact, fulfilling your needs. ( maybe you are continually searching for something you actually cannot attain through hobbyings "quick fixes" ) Also, ask yourself if it's possibly a way of "escaping" other issues, that are missing in your life or harder to tackle. I believe in many cases it is. In my case it partly is.

I do see how it's an addiction in that the more fixes you get, the higher the level you become accustomed to and crave. As others said, cutting down will not work, if you are, in fact, in an "addictive cycle". Upon and / or after each visit, you experience the high, then the withdrawal, until you get your next fix. ( unless, in this case, you burn out ) I do think that an obsession is more accurate, as quitting an actual substance addiction ( physical & psychological ) that has control of you is sheer hell ( ie alcohol, tobacco, crack etc )

Everyone is different, so what applies to one may not be apply for you. It is possible to keep things in balance, but there's always the chance of it escalating again.
