college training - or lack of

(to DFNU) looks like our good friends have been working hard to ensure their courses are well run, just been chatting to a sports massage student (should have been an SM grad), who tells me that the whole of her class has failed their sports massage course, because they basically werent really taught anything for the duration. The two tutors have been sacked, but what a shame that this was only picked up right at the very end of the course, when they should have been graduating.

The good old tutor/iv ticking the assessment boxes to say the student is competent should be dropped in my opinion. There should be rigourous, and regular examining/assessing, to ensure that not only does the student know what they are doing, but the tutor is teaching what they should be. Clearly hasnt happened in this instance!

On the plus side, the students have been offered a discount on further training(!!!!)

One thing I brought in on my courses is a tutor grading system, where the student grades the tutor after each module. This gives me the ability to spot any potential problems immediately. Any tutor falling below 90% and its This system ensures that the tutor gives their very best, after all, this is what we expect from students.

This is quite shocking (well, to me!), as a student I would be absolutely livid, and what a cheek only offering a discount, it's time and effort for the students too! ooh! makes me cross for them - although out of the whole class did not one of them think 'I am out of my depth here' and ask for help guidance, if they were misled in this way that's even worse.

I am a little biased as a previous student of your courses (SportsTherapy) but the ability to not only grade the tutor at your college but also the very open forum/ atmosphere that was created within the culture there was very apparent. I felt that it enabled all students to be able to ask and discuss their abilities and where they felt they needed further assistance, guidance or focus and where they may have been struggling with teaching methods etc etc. The feedback to students was also very clear whether it was attitude, technique/practical, theory or confidence issues - confidence was my issue, and I have to admit the mid-course tutorial was one of the best days (apart from receiving final certs!) it re-addressed my confidence issues and enabled me to move forward.

I will stop there as I think your head will get too large! but fab course, fab experience and it has changed my life.

How were they "rumbled"?
Surely the AB didn't actually do an EV visit which involved more than a free coffee and cake

Did the AB vet the tutors to see if they were competant (or were they just cheap and available
Surely they should shoulder some of the "blame" (better still why not just stick to what they know best > beauty therapy, hairdressing and flower arranging


Who assessed the Learners? (Would love a PM naming names )

You didn't mention how long the "duration" was?
