All my times doing mongering in TJ, I always am on alert that I am on
a foreign soil here and there is not much help for the mongers from the
local law enforcements. Therefore, just lay low and be smiles with all
people around . Certainly, with some Spanish in my head it is sure big
help and I can what they really need or who are they . Of course, during
many years mongering on zona norte I had my share of ambushes , but,
it usually was not a big issue , just a little insults here and there. However,
You must understand that sometimes the people get mad and frustrate with
their own life struggling they will take that to the others with more fortunate
.I know the bars now they mentioned in ART 123. Just because I went thru.
a lot of ambushes during the VN. war and gain quite experiences at the early
years I am now more incline to take more chances than I should be . The
bottom line is mongering site post to be a happy and safety for all people.
for the providers and the johns too. That is another raeson I shall come back
to mecca Bangkok for second tour this year. The Thai's security folks are
there to protect a Free enterprise mongering system and they make sure
every body is safe and happy to spend to their last usd before going Home.
It is just my 2 cents and I am still a happy monger with TJ.

I've only been to TJ 3 or 4 times in my life, I generally feel quite safe, I've walked the busy back streets on Saturday nights and witnesses some very strange things, but I'll go back again no problem... this is part of the charm of TJ, a bit of danger.

However, I did witness a mugging of an elderly lady right on revolution, on a saturday afternoon, they just grabbed her purse and ran.

I should probably be more careful than I am, but I find a bit of danger kind of exciting. I'm tall, young, so may be less likely to be mugged. Be aware and careful, and you should be fine.

Actually it is not the gang bangers that hate plasticos so much...the gang bangers are plasitcos and maybe why there is so much hatred. I'm not all into the psychological aspect of it, but maybe the locals resent that some of these South Siders try to run shit down there.

I'm not aware on any tough gang bangers from Bario Logan but maybe they are around somewhere...the Southsiders that try to occupy the corner of Coahuila and Constitution have weak game...trying to play people for $1 to $3 and run from trouble. There MO, is to try to pretend like they can help you and work you for $1 or $2 or burn you on a drug deal, etc...just petty shit.

Many of these reports come from longterm, experienced, highly repsected mongers. Guys like Bordersushi, Ben, and El Cochino. Guys whose vericity is really "above reproach."

Fireballs...you need to spend more time doing a search. Over the years there are many posts about muggings, etc. Not all of which were on Articulo 123. All the posts I referenced above happened on Articulo 123, which doesn't mean that something didn't happen elsewhere on the same day.

For the record: I don't consider Tijuana a dangerous place. As I've posted before, you're in more danger tripping and falling than getting mugged.

Also, these problems aren't as common as they were years ago. Thanks to the street widened, improved lighting, etc.

However, this thread began by questing a report about a recent mugging on Articulo 123. The point of the above is to show why I find that thread credible.

I agree the odds are in a man's favor when walking down Articulo 123. But I stand by my statments that:
--Articulo 123 is one of the most dangerous streets in TJ for mongers
--That it is prudent when possible to take an alternate route

I agree in what you said. Im going to ask the chicas what a Plastico is .

I did ask a few chicas if my accento was typical Mexicano, like Norteno,Chilango etc. They said no ,"tu accento es Pocho,pero lo hablas muy bien.(your accent is pocho but you speak it very good.)

I never felt resentment or hatred from Mexicans in Tijuana or when i was in Jalisco,San Luis Potosi,Sinaloa,Guanajuato,Sonora,Nayarit,Chihuahua,
Zacatecas etc. In fact my Accento tends to atract the ladies(non hoes) fast. They think"pocho" y guapo y con dollares.

I don't think there is deep seated hatred again Mexican-Americans in Tijuana except maybe by the local gang-bangers who live in TJ, and only because they like to fight, and like dogs they don't like other gang-bangers moving into their territory. The quote the Mexican cop told KingTijuanero, more or less sums up their feelings towards pochos when the cop said, "You pochos think you are all that ,you think you guys are better than us. You guys come to Tijuana and think you can do what you want." I would say, it's only a little bit of animosity, and a lack of respect on both sides, but they could take or leave pochos, and really don't give them a second thought and will only rag on them when they are around.

Because if you think their is deep seated hate towards Pochos, the hate would be double towards gringos, because as must as they might hate pochos, they would hate gringos twice as much! And I don't think that's the case with the majority of them, as they see they have money and make good customers, and even tip.......if anything they tolerate gringos rather well. If you ever sit with a chica and ask her what she thinks of a certain group, she'll usually say, she dislikes just about everybody, including other Mexicans, but that doesn't stop her from having fun with just about everybody.

Larry, good to see you back from "lurking" Now I remember more, the first time I was in TJ I remember reading some posts about all those "rateros" attacking you from behind or getting ambushed. I. After being ambushed a couple of times in the 1990 gulf war I was not about to be initmidated by a couple of mexican punks, so off I was walking the streets on the wildside, I must have been on the 123 or whatever, watching my back. I bumped into one mexican guy who snarled at me and I snarled right back ! It wasnt intentional from my part. But I didnt want to test my luck too far, so took a cab back to the "safe" zona. I thought I was going to do some mexican sightseeing, but there wasnt much around and I had to fend off young kids hawking gum or something.

I don't know who you hang out with but most Mexican nationals in Tijuana have a relative in the USA ,so i don't think 10% of Mexican nationals in Tijuana hate Mexican-Americans.They tend to dislike Mex-Americans with the nopal in the cabeza ,who don't speak a lick of Espanol.

If you are Mex-American and fluent en Espanol ,Mexican nationals specially in the interior and specially the women love you.I had 18-26 old flirtying with me in Guadalajara and in Sinaloa. And they believed i was 27 years old and i was 37 at the time.

I do know most dislike the gringo.

Mexican cops do dislike and are jealous of Mexican-Americans. That has been my experience with most of those losers.When i was arrested like 19 years ago in Tijuana for drinking in public. The cop told me "ustedes los pochos se creen mucho, se creen mejores que nosotros,bienen a Tijuana y creen que pueden hacer lo que queran".
(You pochos think you are all that ,you think you guys are better than us. You guys come to Tijuana and think you can do what you want.)

Burt, Thanks for bringing in the info about dates of attack. May be some of it is true.
Fireballs, you made an important point about fending of "choke attacks". Damn ! looks like I will have to do some fighing training all over again But its important, come up with it and you just might save one of us in the future.
I think this whole thing is somewhat exaggerated. Most of the mongers wouldnt go there knowingly but perhaps inadvertently. "Where angels fear to tread...... And Fireballs remember to post your trip report ! Thanks

Thanks to remind me the street ART , I walked through that area
may be several hundred times and know those bars you mentioned
in here. Definitely, the bars are all hard core locals when I poke my
nose in those bars couple times to check things out. I think I can
have fun baila if they play norte bandas musical and the norm . pay
to dance like the Miami. Some guys now even think I must be a
front man for the Miami bar ! Unfortunately, I am not , I am just a
regular cliente monger just like other dudes . It happened I like the music
when I started to study Spanish course in Santa Ana college. Interesting
class I still remember, the Spanish teacher a lady who came from Spain
and let the students learn all kind of Mexicans music with history behind
them. If you listen to Miami bar musics they play a lot of North Mexico
banda .

Actually I cannot remember hearing it from any putas...just Mexican Nationals around TJ. Very deep hatred for Mexican Americans.....I believe it is unfounded....but all the same very deep.

I don't want to go into the other story, just to say, I avoid him at all costs, and hope to never see him again.

i do not know if this helps the new owner or hurts him in long run having more than 70% posts are hidden from general public...lol

i do not believe in private forums and on top of that , having private forums on top of private forums...

i do however believe in having a private forum where general public can not access the site just be a lurker...

this type of hobbie gets very personal for many guys in different levels and able to have a discussion forum where general public with email account can access just wrong with out knowing their age personaly or having some type of references..

Larry, if you ever walked from Revolution to the Zona, it's almost certain you walked ART 123( 1st street) and then walked down Constitution where all the SGs start. I bet you didn't even give the street a second thought, as it's a tiny part of the street and really nothing at all.

I know you like to go to Miami and dance. If so you should also check out Rio Verde, and especially El Fracaso both on ART 123. They are both very hard-core Mexican bar/dance clubs with lot of Civilian Latinas who moonlight as dance hall girls. It's not for the faint of heart, and I could see how Bohemian would freak out a little, as it's so different then what we are use to in America, or even the zona.

Dr Choi, when I talk about secret sites, I'm just talking about forums on the main boards, where you don't have to go to separate sites. Maybe you don't know about them? And no I didn't re-start my blog, maybe some other time.

As long as I know TJ and come here I don't even know exactly where
is articulo 123 ? May be I just walk by from the bus stop on Revolucion
to zona norte but I am not really pay much attention to that street with
some locals bars . The TJ bars I know are only Miami favorite, Tropical ,
HK.La Tropa. just provide me more than enough fun . Adelita is always a
sure sport FU... and a big hit when I see the chicas I know. I am a fan
of Chicago club .
