Matthews won the RR twice in a row, the Calder, the Hart, and still hasn't reached his peak. Tavares hasn't won anything, and already reached his peak before signing with the Leafs. Big difference there.

Firing management will not help the outcome for this season. Getting some dependable goaltending will solve a lot of problems. Rebuilding the roster will take three to five years and no-one wants to go through that again. Only have two seasons before the roster will degrade due to contracts expiring. This group is as good as any other team but its the little things that make the difference in the playoffs.

No goaltender can save the Leafs, we can have Tampa's or peak Carey price and it won't make a difference because the d-line is weak and our back check is weak , the giveaways are atrocious

Yes until they tighten up defensely they won't go anywhere, they don't have their stud defenseman most winning teams have, ie pronger, Lidstrom, etc.

The only thing that matters is the cup. Individual awards and accolades don't win the cup. This isn't soccer where most points at the end of the season wins. Leafs can't get past the first round.

We were comparing Tavares with Matthews. The point I was making, is that Tavares is the highest paid player, and is past his prime, but still hasn't won anything. Matthews has already won a ton of awards, but still hasn't reached his peak. Again, big difference.

The power play isn't the end all of end alls. It's only one of many aspects of the game. Matthews actually has more even strength goals than any other player since entering the league. Yes I agree but it just goes to show that even when they're up a person they still have a hard time getting pucks into the net, i have mixed opinion on Matthews sometimes he plays very well and other times he's utter dog shit, needs to be more consistent , out of the 3 games I've watched this year I think Nylander and Tavares have been playing well together, we'll take Lakeshore since Yonge is always congested

Mathews cap hit is $11.6 making him the highest leaf player. Not Tavares. And they were signed for different reasons. You keep bringing up awards that Mathews has won. The point you miss is that those awards mean fuck all. The only thing that matters is the cup.

Unless Mathews changes his style of play dramatically he's not the guy to get them there.

But history says that it is only with dependable goaltending, regardless of other issues, which all teams have, that results in playoff success. New York has Shisterkin, Tampa has Vaselevski, we cant get out of our conference without that goalie. Pardon my spelling.

Colorado won last year with average goaltending, but that is not the norm I agree. Stellar goaltending definitely helps. What Leafs lack is killer instinct and toughness. A Simmonds or a Muzzin doesn't make the whole team tough. They have to be tough collectively. Until that happens, all the pretty passing and playing keep away will mean nothing. Dubas bet big on skill alone and he will loose his job soon if Leafs don't go past 1st round if they make playoffs at all.

That was just pathetic. As a Leaf fan that felt like rock bottom to me. Still I came back and support them (its in my DNA). Have respect for too many players of the past (Gilmour, Sundin, Clark etc) to just abandon my fanship.
