The biggest problem that I know of concerning apartments is that they can't register you, and this is a problem if you're staying in a city for more than three days. The girls that drug drinks are mostly Reviewom bars like the Hungry Duck (this is where I picked up the gypsy trash that drugged me and took my phone.) My Reviewiend had one bad (actually funny) experience in Chebokshary where some apartment owner rented him a place and then discovered that he'd brought a prostitute there. The landlady tried to take my Reviewiend's phone because he wouldn't give her 200 rubles extra for staying a few hours later, the prostitute discovered her doing it. The landlady started to call the girl a worthless whore so the prostitute beat the crap out of her!

it just changed the new guy had a place before it was not as nice as moscow star. the word on the street is that it should still be ok. cant say if they will be as helpful int he tochka seen. still my advice would be chat up a girl on icq. get a apartment. even if you get a girl that will not go all the way you can earn a guide for a few days until you decise it is a waste of time and move on.

Well, Moscow star has changed ownership, so I'm not sure what the new owner is like. Anyone have any ideas?

some apartments have smpes inside all can be loked. So you bring her in and then lock thedoor and hid ethe key somewhere. she wont be able to leave even if she druged you. This is still not a everyday thing and this is only happening if you are not paying atention. In russia some hotels will not let girls in or you will have to bribe security. then only girls Reviewom agencys will come so now you have to pay the high fees for the agency girl then pay the security then pay for the top class hotel for the price of one day liek this you could have 3 days with a wg or semi pro and 4 days to hunt for Revieweebies to lay in your apartment.

I have two concerns about renting an apartment:
1) It may be hard to get in, but it's easy to get out - the threads talk of a girl slipping something into your drink, and you wake up the next morning without your wallet or valuables. In hotels, apparently, if the stmpf see a girl leaving, they will call to make sure everything is all right.
2) Western brand name hotels would live up to their reputation, and you pay for that. But I know nothing about apartment owners, and everyone knows about internet scams. On that subject, the owner of Moscow-star recently sold the business, so does anyone know anything about the new owner? I was thinking of using one of their aparrtments.

I'd suggest that anyone who is looking to travel and stay mpew nights (or more) in Russia, or any other country, search for either magazines or website services that cater specifically to businessmen travelling on a budget.

I've found decent apartments in many Russian cities costing around $100 US, with hotel stays as low as around $25 to $40 per night.

While I admit this makes you do alittle work, I think it's better to know your own way around than rely on some scribbled directions you got Reviewom a 3rd party.

What are people paying for Hotels and Short-Term Apartments in Moscow? Before I lived here, I once payed $180US a night for a shitty little room in a crappy hotel in Smolenskaya, the stmpf didn't speak any English, and were not interested in helping with anything, that was about two years ago. I agree with some previous posts, renting an apartment is the way to go. For less money than a hotel you get the whole apartment to yourself, and you can come and go as you please with whoever you want. Somebody PMed me that they'd rather stay in a hotel because it was smper, but apartments are not dangerous at all, particularly the ones managed by Westerners. The way they're made, it's impossible to break into 'em, they only way someone is going to get in, is if you let them in. Here are some useful links, feel Reviewee to add some more.

someone else posted that B&Bs were only $50 a night, but they won't answer the phone so I can't confirm that. Don't know about guests either.

ah the travellers guest house, Moscow's first backpackers, it's divey, but it's cheap, and there's a good atmosphere, i've stayed there many times with no problems. You are not supposed to bring girls back, but you can sneak them in late at night easily because the girl on duty is asleep and her door is closed. The security guards downstairs don't care. (TGH is one floor of a typical Moscow building)

Most of these places will do an airport pickup/dropoff for you, but don't do it, they charge too much, even TGH wants $40 which is way too much. 500 Rubles is the most you should pay. You'll get a few refusionals, but eventually somone will agree. If you go out into the carpark you can find someone going into town for 200Rubles. If you're brave (can read cyrillic) you can get a 15Ruble taxibus(mashutka-just follow the crowd) to a metro station(12Rubles) the metro will take you anywhere you want to go. You'll need a metro map of course.
