Masthera,When I quit (as IC) the salon where I worked. I wrote them a letter since it was nearly impossible to meet with the owners even if an appointment was scheduled days in advance.So, I just wrote in as professional a manner as possible... that I would be relocating, and therefore would not be available to do massage for clients after _______(date). Which was actually giving them about 2 weeks notice. However, about 5 days of that 2 weeks I was out of town getting some Continuing Education. LOL(Less chance of an unpleasant parting of the ways that way I figured.)I didn't want to make it about what they were doing wrong which ticked me off... which was a lot. But, no, I wanted it to sound like I was leaving to pursue my own dreams and goals it puts a more positive spin on it... and then when you have your own practice you'll be able to decide how much to charge - among other things! LOL

Masthera, that's cool. آ I didn't realize that you charge a little more overall. آ That way, you're comfortable doing a customized session depending on what they really need. آ Smart! آ Congratulations on your decision as well.  I think you're well-placed for success on your own.  It's scary and exciting.  Let the excitement take over and do the work, the rest will surely fall into place.  So much good luck to you. Ok reading all of this makes me think in an all together way of thinking. Thanks. I am worth more and maybe more than the others are charging. Not much more but more. I think after the first of the year I will go up on my prices. Again Thanks. ;D

This might be a weird way of looking at rates but I've found it to be true in my profession of 25 years....You can charge too little!  As eluded to in previous posts, a rate can be an indicator of qualification.  Some people would rather pay the higher rate and have the perception that they are being served by a more qualified individual.  I used to lose building design jobs because I was TOO LOW and my bid or price seemed desperate or inexperience based.Doesn't a referral sound great when it contains something like, "Yeah, he/she was a little more expensive but it was well worth the price!".  I learned my lesson years ago.  When pricing work now I quote confidently and without apology for I figure I'm worth every last cent I charge!
