Hey, 19 here wanting to go have some fun in mexico. Im not an idiot and im just looking for someone whos not an asshole to go down with and either show me where the best places to go are or get lost trying to find them with me. Someone in one of these posts said we are safer in numbers and i agree! Wed's and Thursd's are best for me but i can usually go whenever

Funny how they hassled you instead of going to pick up the guy they said was selling drugs. It is part of their scam. When they stopped me, they searched through my wallet as well. Lesson learned for me is hold onto your cash and don't carry a wallet.

Here is another thing to be careful of. I was in TJ in the middle of the day last year and while walking towards the alley some local guy handing me some biz card for a massage parlor, which I took. He then tried to sell me viagra, which I have never taken. I looked at the pill and package and noticed the back had been opened so it was probably a fake. I said no and that it may have been opened and then started walking again. Total time talking to this guy was 20 seconds tops.
As I walked a block or two up the street all of sudden two TJ cops stopped me, and asked what I bought from the guy. I said nothing and basically they said they knew he sold drugs and asked me to empty my pockets. I did and they looked thru everything, all the time having me hang on to my own wallet. They even unscrewed the cap of my pen looking for drugs.
I speak just a little Spanish and dont look like a druggie. When asked what I was doing there I just said I was waiting to meet some friends over by Adelitas. Once they were comfortable I had no drugs on me, they let me go and said dont ever talk with those guys and head back towards the main zona. They never once asked for money even though I had a few hundred on me. It taught me a good lesson and I didnt offer a bribe since it wasnt asked for. I have always gone alone and take the taxis back and forth. (Whats $5 when I am banging hot mexican chicks for 50 and seeing free lesbo shows at Hong Kong). Better to be safe than sorry. Also I usually get some tacos for the little taco places along the alley and never had a problem.
One more thing, be really careful if you drink too much. I cant tell you how many times I've seen way too many drunk gringos get hasselled at the border by TJ cops when they are drunk and getting out of cabs.

HB Enrique, Are you thinking about driving down from Huntington Beach on Saturday night and expecting to be there at 7pm?

I recommend leaving HB no later than 430pm on Saturday, or earlier than that if you haven't been to the border before.

Yes, the western side of the freeway is the side you enter into Mexico. If you look at this location (noted above) at the bottom of the ramp of the US pedestrian bridge, I doubt you will find anyone else standing there. We'll wait until 7pm.

It is a lot longer than 1 hour and a half from Costa Mesa. If you go on a weekend maybe longer than 2 hours. There is a lot more traffic than 20 years ago. I tried to speed and too many cars on the freeway now to get there fast. It seemed like it was days to get to the border.

That $5 cab ride to Adelitas Bar is only a couple of minutes. Those guys make a fortune off us gringos.

Going with an amigo is probably a good practice. In my experience, tho, I've never had trouble traveling solo. I like to move at my own pace and check things out as I feel like it. Chicas seem to dig it too as it provides more options. Just be very aware of your situation at all times -- situational awareness as the combat/terrorism/crime training courses tell you. Don't put yourself in foolish situations. Stay in lighted areas. If you are going say from AB to Purple Rain (formerly deja vu) take a cab, even tho it's only a few blocks. Around the zona or elsewhere at night, if you find yourself in a dark area, step into the street and walk down the middle. Safer there. Above all, don't be a jerk. Be nice to folks. Get a shoe shine. Tip everyone. Treat the locals like people. That won't save you in a crime ambush, but it's nice to have friends and makes the experience seem safer. Just go with your eyes open and be cautious, but don't be paranoid. Just one old dog's view.

the legal drinking age is 18 but they will serve you if your 10 they just want money, if u in oc it should take you no more than a hour and a half stright down the 5. all the parking is located off the freeway, get off where it says last usa exit and you will see all the parking lots. to have a decent time you going to need at least $100 not a whole lot a fun but enough for a girl and couple beers and cab ride. when u get in cab ask to go to adelitas, there you will find these bitches for $60 plus $11 for the room, dont pay that tell them all you have is $40 and $11 for the room if its slow they will take it everytime. you should bring at least couple hundred so u can bang a couple tramps, its always more exciting that way, if you ballsy take two at a time if its late enough you might find some tramps that will do two girls for the price of 1, in that case the $60 is acceptable and proudly pay 11 for the room. i hope to be down there june 11, anyone else going?
