Sudan tico bar

Last trip in sjo went to a place called the Sudan brand new ticos bar. 1500.00 C to get in they have a private area in the back and upstaris,6 of us went upstairs to private area there was 2 other people up there that's it. Decor is all middle east type down to the Arbian pipes they bring you to smoke. I was charged like 20,000.00 for 6 people to sit and they brought a case of beer with ice,glasses water and some little food bits to eat.I was also told if we drank all the beer more would follow .This was told by my date,never got close to finishing the beer.
The only thing that was a draw back was the heat in that place.I like it cold and I was sweating my arse off, leaveing and returning is not a promblem if you need to step out to catch your breath(you will be searched each tiome you re enter. the location of this place is 5-8 minute taxi ride from president hotel toward san pedro.

Are you sure the name isn't the 'Sultan?' If so, it's on the main drag, Paseo Colon, on the right hand side as you head towards Mall San Pedro. They have cheap beer and middle eastern food that's pretty good, though not as cheap as the alcohol. It's also right before you get to the KFC.

Yes, that's the Sultan alright. I used to live just about 3 blocks from there. It was something like 1300 colones for a giant pitcher. Lots of students there. Good place to warm up before heading to the Molino Rojo (as certain members of their staff have been known to do)

Paseo Colon is in the opposite direction going towards Sabana Park, not the San Pedro Mall. There just so happens to be another middle eastern place called Lubnan on Paseo Colon somewhere around Torres Mercedes. The place you all are talking about here is on Avenida Central where Avenida 2 forks into it (near Calle 29 where the train tracks cross). I was there last year and have to say I wasn't too impressed. I stopped in around 5-6PM just for a bite to eat, no cover was charged and hardly anyone was there. I only had 1 beer with my meal and thought the food was a little pricey for what you get by CR standards and the service was very slow considering the crowd. In fairness, I'm sure it has to get livelier later in the evening and I also wasn't there for Tuesday's Ladie's Night so maybe it would be worth giving it a second try for that. It also looks like they've spruced up the place since I was there.

Incidentally, its interesting that Bilko should mention Molino. I got turned on to this place while out with RBC100 at nearby Arcadas where we ran into a friend of his who runs the place along with his brother. Is this just a makeover or are they under new management? Just from the little I saw they definitely needed to do something.

Projilo, You're right, I had the wrong street name.

The food is a bit pricey. I wouldn't go there in search of a chica unless my spanish was totally fluent AND I was 30 years younger. I'll let everybody know when that happens. I only hung out there because the beer was cheap and it was close to home.
