possible confusion on reflex point?

Hi, I think, my thyroid shows up consistently through reflexology. It's the point just below the ball of my big toe on my L foot so not down at the joint where it meets the foot but the knuckle above that - hope that makes sense. When following the natural curve of this point there is a bubble. But I wondered if this could be confused with the neck point as I have neck probs. Blood tests reveal no problem with thyroid but if you think this point is highlighting thyroid I'd get an alternative test.

I want to raise this with my reflexologist but want to know that this is a valid Q to ask as I don't want to offend.

Hi Millie

I am in no way referring specifically to your therapist, but I just want to make you aware of our code of ethics as practitioners.

This is a very slimmed down version as I am short on time:
As Reflexologists we are not allowed to 'diagnose' conditions in our clients. We are not medically trained and even if some therapist are, within the Reflexology arena it is not acceptable for us to adopt the role of a GP etc.

There are many different foot maps for Reflexology and very often therapists have their won unique way of working.

The area you describe, if I understand you correctly, is in relation to the top of the neck, posterior (the thyroid is not situated there in the body).

Have you been advised by your therapist to get these thyroid tests done or have you decided to act upon her information yourself.

If you think about it, the whole of the body is squeezed into the foot area in Reflexology and so one spot will cover many aspects in the body internally and externally. So for this reason we are taught to refer to areas and not organs or specifics etc.

The above is my own working practice and maybe it will give you something to help you when you discuss things with your therapist.
However as I first mentioned at the beginning of this post I am not doubting your therapist just giving you a different view point.

To add to this enquiry, if you look up the symptoms of various thyroid problems, this may give you extra clues. Also thyroid blood tests can be very inaccurate.

Reflexology apart......do you have any any physical symptoms which would lead you to believe that you have a problem with your thyroid?

Do you think ......overactive....underactive?

I am just being pedantic here.

I am a reflexologist but also a trained nurse and I also have an underactive thyroid.

As a reflexologist I would never suggest to any client that any organ was problematic for the same reason that Cirrus and Reiki Pixie state.

The reason this is so important to me is we've been ttc our 2nd child for 2 yrs now and in the last year have had 3 miscarriages. I'm constantly trying to understand if there is anything we can do to try and enable a viable pg next time. Have had reflex for the last yr and feel it has been fundamental in becoming pg. I have a great relationship with my therapist and value her opinion which is why I didn't want to ask a question and potentially offend. I was told my thyroid was showing up every 2/3 session. I can feel the bubble too when she works but now it shows at every session. With my therapist we have discussed a thyroid Dr who believes in a urine test rather than blood test to reveal a disorder as my blood tests are all normal.

The question I'm asking myself is should I get this urine test done because if that is contributing to the fertility/miscarriages I need to attend to it and so that is why I'm trying to gather information in order to make that decision to talk to my therapist and potentially take this test.

I take my bbts and a la Dr Barnes method most of my temps at the beg. of my cycle are below 36.4. Both my Mum and Brother have thyroid issues. I don't necessarily have many symptoms, 2 which stand out tho are an intolerance to heat, I get hot very easily and the outer part of my eyebrows are thinning. The 'getting hot' very easily seemed to happen when I was pg, like my thermostat isn't working and I thought it would revert but it never has. I'm unsure potentially over or under but I know symptoms can fluctuate from one to the other.
