They will not be stamping any passports, just checking them like they do today. Also if they ever do pass this law a much cheaper "border pass" will be acceptable for the Mexican and Canadian borders.

I agree... businesses on both sides of the borders with Canada and Mexico are crying about the passport requirement. this will virtually kill tourism business in places like British Columbia and TJ/Rosarito.

Most people who will take a day trip across the border on a whim won't go if they need a passport- not to mention most people don't even have a passport and they are not free (passports for a family of four= $$/$$$). Plus, what a pain in the ass for the border patrol to have to check and stamp passports when now they just glance at DLs all day- which is twice as fast. Faggidaboudit!

they could limit that possibility by using our military to truly protect our borders and keep better track of holders of international visas of any type.

But, now, Schoomaker is saying that if we dont add 2 new brigades and start using national guard and reserves more, our active army will "break".

I have friends that are going to be going on their 4th tour this coming year..

most people say the marines have done 5 or 6.. but they do 4-6 month tours.
The army does year long or more tours. I have one friend that spent 2 of his first 4 years in the desert.

then again, I'm just a corporal, so what the fuck do I know.

Jan 2008 is still slated for mandatory possession of passport or PASS card, or maritime ID, to cross back into the US by car or walking, so plan NOW for your passport and/or Pass card.

Note: The pass card is credit card size, and is used only for the border areas of Mexico and Canada. It is not used for traveling into the interrior of Mexico, or further North into Canada.

Of course, if there is another terrorist incident here in the US, you can bet that the borders (North and South) will snap shut faster than a virgins hip-hugger pants on prom night, in a hurry due to the populace demanding that they be protected.

We are looking at I believe June 1 of 2009 for people travelling by car or pedestrians....of course they will move that back as well in all liklihood.

Does anyone know if any new laws are coming out on 1/1/07? Such as do we need to have passports to cross back into the US or can our Driver's license still work?
