Natures Massage Stones

Has anyone had experience with this company? I am ready to make my investment (I did hot stone at spas I worked at, but this is going to be my first very own set!) and these look beautiful. I read the testimonials and I am impressed. I am thinking of going for the 44 set and adding some extras. Definitely I am leaning toward the colored. And, these are marked down like 50%.

I don't know a lot about hot stones, but don't they hold the heat better if they are more of the natural state basalt? these appear to be of something else or are shined up somehow that maybe is not helpful... or am I just not seeing things right? (I'm very ill currently -- client gave me the yuck... and am on antibiotics... once in 10 years or so for me.... so, please forgive if I missed something). *puny*

So, I believe they are basalt. I don't know that polishing the stone affects heat retention? Some are colored and some are black. I am seriously leaning toward colored or colored/black combo. (I think I said that already.)

My only thought is that the stones look small to me and I didn't find anywhere on the website where they list the size of the stones. It's hard to judge the size as there is nothing in the picture to compare them to except for the other stones. Using the toe stones as a referrence, I compared them to the largest stones in the set and that makes me think that the largest stones aren't really that big.

If that's the size you're used to working with and that's the size you're looking for then that's fine. If you're used to working with larger stones (I have some big mamba-jamba stones) then you might be disappointed.

The price certainly is good and they even have reasonable shipping.

Thanks, Angie. I am worried about the size, I see on the site that I could add 4 extra large (defined as 5" or larger) stones for about $20.

I was also looking at the set of 50, which lists belly and sacrum, and I'm looking at the pic like "which ones?"

Just as a comparison I went to HealingStone's website which is where I bought my stones from. Here is a page which has the sets pictured:

Ok....compare the toe stones in these sets to the rest of the stones....big difference in the size.

But....these sets are much more expensive.

You could always start out with the smaller set and add more to it later??

Wow - no I've never used them but they sure are beautiful! I would be concerned with the size. If you can talk with the seller and figure out the dimensions, that would be a good way to decide if it will fit your needs. I would lean towards the combo pack as well if I were buying. If you do purchase them, let us know how it works for you.

I was planning on just getting a set to start, and adding more. Right now I am using moist hot towels for heat, and I am so sick of the extra laundry. Nice effect for the client, but I only do laundry once a week, and I have all these towels draped over laundry baskets to dry (before they mildew) until I do laundry.

The Nature Stones do seem more like they would just fit in the palm, which is fine, but I do like the big, weighty stones too.

They sure are pretty, but your client will never see them. Just keep that in mind when you are shelling out the dough.

ETA: Me thinks I should go to Home Depot and buy a large bag of stones and divide them into sets to sell at high prices. :grin:

Actually, my instructor said it was nice to travel around the world and find the perfect stones in nature polished by the river in the bottom of river beds. He said they all have their own vibrations. You can find "just the right size" etc.

I just use what my boss gives me to use. Sometime the stones seem to hold heat and sometimes they don't and it is always the same set. Go figure.

I know a few people who went to landscape companies and picked through the stones there to make their sets. You just have to make sure that the stones are dense enough. I looked at some of the ones at Home Depot and they were too porous to hold the heat very long.

This is another nice thing to do but it can take a long time to amass enough stones for a set.

The place where I got most of my stones from claims that they collect the stones from the beaches in New England (or at least they did back when I got mine) so at least I know that someone combed the beaches looking for the perfect stones.

I bought all my stones off of ebay a few years ago. Will try to see if my sellers are still posting stones or not, but for now check out this set (even though I didn't see sizes they are basalt, at least!). I really love the wooden box too.

Okay, here was one of the suppliers I purchased from originally: RubRocks Massage Supply, they have sets of basalt stones in groups of 50 & 100, as well as pairs of various sizes & are more naturally shaped - which is my preference anyway. You'll love their quality & their prices are cheaper than what you have been considering.

riversinger: I was looking at the link you just posted and it mentions they are "Hand-made basalt stones ... compressed shape stones".

Any idea as to if these are really better than those found in nature? I lean toward thinking: "not so", but I am not in the know for these little guys.

Someone who knows about stones, could you respond with some much needed info for me? *pretty please*

I would hesitate to say "hand-made" basalt stone - compressed or other wise are any better per say.

Personally I prefer stones straight from nature & I do have a few I've incorporated into my original purchased sets. The ones that I picked from along the river, where I live, are mainly used on top of the sheets or blankets for their size & weight, as well as the heat they provide. One is a kidney bean shape, quite flat, & I use it on the abdomen, with the concave curve resting just above the pubic bone. The other is a long narrow rectangular shape with rounded ends & is close to 6" long - which I lay lengthwise from above the other one up to the base of the sternum. I also have a couple that I use to tuck in along the top of the traps - as to size & shape they are like elongated triangular stones approx 5" in length.

The ones straight from nature just aren't as silky smooth on the surface as the ones you can buy from various suppliers.

I can say that I love the basalt set I got from RubRocks (on ebay). They're great to deal with & are reasonably priced IMHO. My other stones, which I purchased from another vendor, are exceptional, but she isn't selling any more unfortunately :

But I WILL see them, every time I use them. Isn't that the point of most of the baubles in my treatment room? Sure, the client sees it when they are changing, but other than that their face is in the cradle, or eyes closed. I have the entire hour to enjoy the pretties during the session.

Since by birthday is coming up in a couple weeks, and since my boyfriend has seen me obsessing over the stones, he just bought me the set of 50 colored/black combo. He said, "Don't say I never bought you any rocks for your birthday." Maybe I should stop reminding him diamonds are my birthstone. :lipsaresealed:

Anyway, I am so excited to see these stones in person. I sent the company an email and asked that Cheryl please include some larger stones in the set, as that was my only concern. I will definitely post back as soon as I receive them, let you guys know what I think, maybe even post a pic.

Update!

I received my stones today and I have got to say it IS love at first sight, t055

and I got to use them right away. It will take me a couple of more sessions to get back into the feel of it (been over 3 yrs. since I did hot stone until today), but I made sure to use every single one of them.

I will post back with some photos and a product review soon. I am just so excited, I wanted to share right away.

I am thrilled to have these stones as my own, very first set of hot stones. I can tell that they were hand matched for shape and weight. (The palm stones for example, only have a difference in weight of 7 grams, or a quarter of an ounce.) As I was taking them out of the box, it was obvious which stones are mated. (The spa I worked at had some stones that probably started out as a nice, complete set, but by the time I was hired all the large stones had walked out the door, and the sizable stones that were left were being horded somewhere. So, it was make do, and do your best!) It is so nice working with a set that was selected just for me.

I absolutely love the colors of the rocks. A few of them look like they have flecks of gold in them when they are oiled. All of the stones are very weighty, have a real presence. The rocks are weighty and retain the heat really well.

I purchased the set of 50 black/color combo, and they sent me 54! Bonus!

My main concern before ordering was the size. Antonio responded that sometimes people will tell them their height, and the size of their hands, so that Cheryl can think about them while she is holding and selecting the stones. I am short (just 5'3) but I think I have large hands and feet for a petite person. So I sent measurements of my hands as instructed.

I am a Zappos girl, and when I shop online, I am used to getting it now. The website explained that it takes about 5-10 business days for an order to be processed, since Cheryl hand selects all of the sets. On day 10, I still had not received a shipping notice. I sent Antonio an impatient email, wondering what was the status of my order. About an hour later, I received my stones. When I logged in to email Antonio to disregard my message, he replied that they should be there soon. I apologized for being frantic about the order, he said it happens all the time. People can sense when the stones are near the destination.

Also noteworthy, there has been lucid dreaming for all members of the household (even the dog) since the rocks arrived.

So, I did an 'arty' layout of the stones, and selected a few to show.

The entire set weighs 17 lbs 8.6 oz.

The sacrum stone weighs 1 lb 8.5 oz.

These together weighed 2 lbs. 5.6 oz

My hands are 7" long, and 3 1/2" wide. Included the pics so you have the reference.
