Amoxycilin is no longer effective against many/most strains of VD;s
Also Cipro is starting to loose it effectiveness against several strains.

This is from a doctor in at a Sydney Sexual health clinic.
I commented in South East Asia they never bother with the tests they just hand out Cipro, to which he quipped "Cipro no longer works for that reason"

While waiting for test results he gave me a two pill cure all*, I just wish I had noted what it was.
*VD bacterial infection cure all.

If you are going to self prescrib do the research and get the right medication.

really the moral is wear a condom. There is a drug resistant strain on Gonherea that will have you pissing razor blades for a week while they sort out what meds to give you.

The only thing Amoxyxcilian will clear up in NSU (non specfic urenteritis) which more often than not goes away on its own.

Amoxycillian doesn't even work for most sore throats these days, basically only non communicable infections.

For meds in China I use Google translate on my computer to search for the name of the medicine in Chinese and take a picture of that with my digital camera.
Showing the picture with the Chinese name of the medicine is the easiest way to buy it.

Most pharmacies will not have an English speaking employee or English to Chinese dictionary.

Once I buy any med in China I always save the packaging so I can just show the package to buy to same meds again in the future.

Just an update. You can find them, but you have to work for it. Most pharmacies will not sell it to you. But if you find a small one in a back ally... they probably will sell it to you.

another note, the reason amoxocillan may not be the best choice is because STDS are becoming resistant to it. Zithromax is next generation and probably a better choice.

I'm no doctor, but you can do a google of the drug. It's a strong anti-biotic and it should clear up most bacterial viruses, which covers many std's.

You can buy Amoxicillin over the counter here, it's about 40 for a pack of 6. Take it 3 times a day after eating untill your symptomns disappear and then carry on taking it for about another week just to be safe.

I caught a dose while in shanghai a couple years back, and I found a local I could trust and told them I had xing bing (vd). She found a cabbie and he took us to a pharmacy. Took all 10 at once, problem solved. Good luck.

I just spent a couple of hours walking around People's Square, E. Nanjing rd. area and Fuzhou road. I went to 6 Pharmacies and none would sell it to me.
I know they are out there, but where?

Also, alot of the pharmacies in areas where foreigners tend to live have an english to chinese dictionary so you can look up the sympoms/infection and point to it so that should get you going on the general direction. You can also try a search on google and that will throw something up for sure

You can get any medication , except controlled substances like narcotics or sleeping pills, in shanghai without prescription. Just tell them what you want in chinese ( they don't know the english name ), or you can point them to what you want and tell them you don't have a prescription. They'll sell it to you, after all they are profit oriented, but may ask you to register your name and phone# which you can put anything down.
Any local pharmacy will be OK.
