Acupuncture question??

I have an essay (containing 1000 words).
The question is;
Using the Chinese methodology (im assuming its Yin Yang thoery and 5 elements thoery) to understand the patient practitioner relation (therapeutic relation)

I get a choice of these (but only pick one or two)
- Patteren
- Interactions
- role-shifting
- Attitude
- Western Medicine - TCM
- Development.


Basically,i dont really know what to do, how to start and what to talk about. If anyone has an idea on what to do i would appriciate it.

The question seems a bit vague not really a question to be honest!
Mine were like that when i took my TCM exams.

Are they asking for you to give you opinion regarding the patient / practitioner relationship....

or....

Are they asking for your TCM thoughts on how...

Patterns - develop in the patient
Interactions - patient / practitioner interactions
role-shifting - ?
Attitude - practitioner attitude towards practice and patients.
Western Medicine - TCM - how western medicine relates to TCM?
Development - the development of diseases, or the development of the working relationship.

see what i mean , its a bit vague.
i would ask your tutor to elaborate a bit more.

yea i no its vague. He said i will understand when i read all my notes and then it will make more sense.. Well after reading my notes i still dont know whats going on??

i would go back to your tutor and get hime to explain until you understand...its their job to help you learn.

When you are learning TCM you are learning medicine form a different culture with different thinking. Its this thinking that you have to grasp! In order for us to pracice successfully you have to be able to see things from both western and chinese culture....which takes time.

In time you will understand this and the learning becomes clearer.

what i noticed when i was learning is that if you don't go to the source ( tutor ) you tend to make your own mind up from other students and various sources, which sometimes can be mis-leading.

Working with other students is paramount, but don't forget that in the end you need to understand for your self, so you can pass and have a successsful practice.

by the way......where are you learning? what is the course?

Yea, its fairly made at the begining to try figure out the meaning.
Its in Ireland. Its called Acupuncture Foundation.

patterns - eg shared decision making relationships
interactions - eg use experience as client at GP clinic/acupuncture clinic or as practitioner treating client (some in the class are nurses, physios etc)
role-shifting: sometimes patient could be dominant and sometimes the opposite
attitude - of patient to practitioner and vice versa
WM - TCM: comparing the style of western med practitioner to TCM practitioner
Development: how the therapeutic relationship develops over the course of several treatments

That what i get from it. Am i right in this.

if ihad to pick from the list it would be the western medical practitioner / TCM practitioner.

alot of patients that i see have undergone some form of western treatment, be it therapies or drugs.

Having a good attitude and understanding of western approach, bridges the gap between our professions.

always remember that the majority of patients you see have the western medical thought and process inbedded from a young age.

The other options seem quite equal and i think that only through case studies and clinical practice will you learn these lessons.
