A Rant!!! about moving

I keep reminding myself that moving shouldn't seem like that big of a deal, what with it being my third *$&^#%@! one in three years, second one long-distance. But this morning I found my mind spinning so fast with details that I couldn't even focus. So I sat down and made a list, thinking that maybe if I get it all on paper I won't worry so much about forgetting something important.

It's a long list. :frown: I have six weeks, which is perfectly reasonable, so I'm not sure why I'm so tense about all this. The upside is that when I'm this stressed it's really hard for me to make myself eat, so that should nicely balance out all the NotWorkingOut I've been doing.

Today I took care of arranging to drop the kitties off at their new home (Friday), car insurance ($250 more/yr. boo hiss), rental insurance, filled out online applications at two shelters, and started researching banks. It was one of those frustrating days when everything takes longer than it should, complete with techno-difficulties. I'm not sure how or when I uninstalled my printer, but it's fixed now. Well not the wireless, but at least it works with the cable. :roll:

When I get there I'm putting up curtains, and I'm not moving again for a long long time.

I wish there was someone here to slap me upside the head and remind me that a 70 lb. dog doesn't belong in an apartment. sigh I miss my big goofy dog. :frown:

Yes, I went through the "choosing movers" stress in 2009, and I found good ones. They showed up on time, worked their asses off, delivered on time with only some very minor damage to stuff, and best of all, the price didn't change once they had my stuff. They are local here so this will be the last time I'm able to use them.

It's a little tempting to write "schedule movers" on my list, just so I can cross it off. :tongue:

Moving is a stressful event and the unpacking and settling in takes months but once it's done you will be breathing a sigh of relief. Hope you love your new digs!!

My big goofy dog was a 100 lb. hound, she's been gone for almost two years now and I'll never stop missing her.

I'm looking now for a dog to adopt after I move, and last night I was wanting a 70lb. hound...it just doesn't make sense to have a dog that big in an apt., I think I need to set a 50lb. weight limit. Even that might be pushing it a bit.

Whatever I end up with, I hope I never see my nephew doing this....

This morning I took the kitties to the vet for checkups and shots, they move to their new home on Friday. I'm trying not to think about missing them, I'm a big baby when it comes to goodbyes.

There's a prison program that has inmates training troubled dogs who would have otherwise been put down, I'm looking into how to apply to get a dog from there. Still looking at shelters too, but a dog who already has basic manners would be very very nice.

I'm looking at the Moving List and thinking about going to the pool instead. :bad:

Usually I'm digging most of what you add on here but this one I just don't get.

How can you separate yourself from your animals like that. For me that is non negotiable.

Maybe I missed the explanation somewhere in your posts.

My original plan was to bring them with me, when I thought I was moving into a third floor apartment. Ending up on the first floor changed that, because now I need a dog. These kitties don't like dogs, and even if they did, three pets is more than I can handle.

I found someone who will keep them together and they'll be well-loved and cared for, and giving them up now seemed like a better option for them than moving them, and then hoping to find a good home for them there. It's not a decision I made lightly.

It's another phase of finding yourself which you have been doing successfully over the last few years! You've made it this far and made several life altering choices along the way, and you're headed to a new adventure/challenge/journey embrace it and enjoy the ride. As you are travelling through Virginia, I would encourage you to fondly remember the FIVE "stiffy" fingers to the face that have broadened your horizons:tongue:

Once you've settled into your new home, I'll travel down for a visit and stay in a cheesy inn! :great:
