Just because some of you on this forum love your lockdowns and mask-wearing, don't shit on other provinces/states/countries who don't implement the same mandates. Toronto has had the longest cumulative days of lockdown in North America and what do we have to show for it? Absolutely nothing! After every lockdown, mask mandate and stay-at-home order, cases are now at an all time high and hospitals are more overwhelmed than ever. You'd hope that by destroying small businesses and killing jobs that at least the trade-off for something as horrible as that would've been low case counts, hospitalizations, ICU occupancy and positivity rates. Yet here we are doing much worse than we ever have.

You can be the buzz kills you've always been by saying that the states that have stayed open and dropped their mask mandates will eventually pay the price for it. Maybe they will. Maybe they won't. At least they've tried to live life as normal as possible and so far, even with all these new strains, they're still doing fine. You can bring up case counts all you want but their schools are open and ours are not. Their small businesses are thriving and ours are not. Our healthcare system is overwhelmed and theirs is not. So in reality, who's doing better?

Last time I checked, the U.S. has a population of 331 million and Canada by comparison only has 38 million. California alone has an estimated 39 million people. Take that into consideration before you take every number you see at face value. Yes many states have mishandled the pandemic and lives were lost but compare where they are now to where we are. The funny thing is, if we were to compare big states and their virus management, Florida has had more cases than New York but less deaths and more recoveries. They've been fully open since the fall while New York has imposed some of the most draconian restrictions. It's only recently that they've gradually reoepened because of the superb vaccine distribution in the states.
