Many have asked what we massage therapists were trained in to become registered massage therapists. It is a course that lass several months but entails many degrees of knowledge. Some think we just do massage therapy techniques only for the entire course, but I hope everyone will see the full capacity of training while reading this column. The instructors are very dedicated and required to educate each student under state rules and regulations set in the state of Texas. The course requires a certain number of hours as for classroom teaching and equals out to the same hours of on-hands training For example, a full course in anatomy is taught along with an interesting aspect of complete physiology which teaches us to get to know ourselves before we work on clients. I remember it was every bit of two months in my course before the instructor would ever begin massage techniques.

I was so fortunate that my school would only accept no more than 12 students at a time for training. This was a perfect number so each of us could learn the course well and experience a great amount of time working with each other. Another part of the education was knowing the purpose of hydrotherapy and all of its benefits. We all were quite impressed to gain the knowledge of many health practices. This got quite involved with realizing different ailments that our bodies go through. It got so involved that we were told when massage therapists completed their course, they had actually completed at least one-third of a nurses training. Another great aspect of the course was a full training of business practices. This helps many who have never been in business and teaches them its advantages and benefits. A full complete course in massage therapy techniques is taught with a full hands-on training. This is where we learn about Swedish , neuromuscular, reflexology, sports, polarity therapy and many other professional manipulations. Finally, after we think we are smart enough, we are required to do so many hours of internship. And then to really test our education we take the required state board exam which then gives us our licenses or not. We have to keep our licenses current every two years and we have to complete so many hours of continued education. After our training is completed and we have obtained our license, we are able and wisely suggested to take extended education courses which makes our practice worth every hour we put into it. One extended course I gained much knowledge from was the Reiki training. You have to complete three degrees of training to become a Reiki Master. This course dates all the way back to the time of Christ. This is when one really learns the power of touch. This course alone has so many tremendous benefits that it has been added as one of the top continued education courses for nurses training. Relax, and enjoy your next massage.
