Colleen Chuipek takes special care when it comes to dogs who have come from abusive situations.
The Salem Lakes resident provides massages for such dogs and plans to begin offering hydrotherapy at her fledgling business, 4Paws Canine Massage and Aqua Therapy.
โI got into this because I did horses for 15 years,โ Chuipek said. โAnd, as I get older it gets harder to do horses.โ
In addition to massages, Chuipek offers reiki treatment, accupressure and other holistic, therapeutic treatments.
Chuipekโs massages are 30 to 60 minutes, and she makes house calls. She also stresses that massages are not a substitute for veterinary care, and she makes referrals when needed.
During last monthโs Walk for Paws fundraiser for Safe Harbor Humane Society, Chuipek used several massage techniques, including one involving pressure points behind a dogโs head, to calm Sasha, a dog recently rescued from a โhigh-killโ shelter in Kentucky.
Chuipek said she pays special attention to dogs rescued from abusive situations.
She said such dogs have special needs and that their care is of great importance to her.
Because of this, she offers them her services at no charge, she said.
โFor them, it will be free to the rescue dogs,โ she said. โThey have a special place in my heart.โ
Sasha, who was brought to the Society of St. Francis shelter in Bristol, has been adopted.
