Is it inappropriate for a guy to massage the feet of a male friend?

I had just finished soccer practice with a male friend of mine at college and we were going home to his apartment to drink a beer and play a video game. When we got in, my friend kept complaining about how his feet are really sore from being on them all day. He just broke up with his girlfriend a few weeks ago, and he told me that she sometimes massaged his feet if they were sore. He then asked me if I would be willing to give them a quick rub. I felt really awkward at first, but I had him sit down, took off his shoes and massaged his feet through his socks for around five minutes. I know that my friend is straight--he's been through several relationships--but I can't help but think that getting a guy to massage his feet is a bit gay. Is it just me; am I being too uptight. My friend even suggested that he would return the favor, if I wanted a foot rub next time and said that it's really relaxing. I still don't feel totally comfortable with this. Any opinions? How would you react?

As a gay guy, I personally find foot massage, both giving and receiving, quite sexy. But I think that it would be a little odd for a straight guy to request it from another straight guy. So he may be bi and I suggest that you are just aware of this in future, and, for instance, try to avoid going to his home with him.

Sometimes a foot rub is just a foot rub. There's nothing wrong with helping a friend out, but if you are uncomfortable doing it, simply don't do it, whatever the reason(s).

If you want to massage his feet -- massage his feet. It seems to me that we as a society are FAR past the type of concerns you have. Why do you care whether he is gay or straight? What would the issue be if he were gay? Get over yourself, relax -- life is SO much better if you do.

Its not gay! I'm gay and you need to touch a lot more than feet to be gay. There are lots of male massage therapists out there and its not gay to get a massage.
