Normally ok yes. Just not worth the hassle and scrutiny. If you were reporting alot of shit, you might be boned and have to repay. Or they could report to employer, that's probably worst case.

The one that is really free and clear is the massage parlour. no one goes after them.

As long as there is a legitimate RMT registration number allocated to the claim, then the employee should be safe. However, if the insurance company investigation uncovers the fact that you were knowingly involved in fraudulent activities, then you are fucked.

Remember that insurance companies have the money and staff to conduct investigations. After all, insurance companies are great at collecting premiums, but prefer to pay out as little as possible.

Personally I would not take the risk of submitting a claim that even hints of smelling fishy (no pun intended).

If you have insurance coverage and want to have a quality massage and a release then get a massage at a 100% legitimate RMT and then pop in to a rub and tug for the release.

It all depends on your plan.

Massage is part of the "Paramedical" coverage. Paramedicals generally cover massage, psychological services, physiotherapy, chiropractics, homeopathic, acupuncture, etc.

Plans either have a set dollar amount per type of paramedical (example massage would be $500 or $1,000 per person per calendar year) or paramedicals can have one dollar amount for all types paramedical coverage per calendar year.

Some plans require a doctor note for all or some services.

Paramedical coverage is detailed on your benefits booklet or just call your insurer and ask.

Per massage claims, most insurance companies allow you to process a claim on-line. They use an honor system in which you do not have to submit a copy of your massage receipt. However, they do conduct random audit checks and will request you to mail in a copy of the receipt. When you file a claim on line you will need to list the name of the massage company, the name of the therapist and his/her unique RMT identification number (all of this is on the receipt).

Is there a risk to the insurance company that they could be burnt for a fake massage? Yes. However the chance of being audited would prevent the majority of people from taking that risk. This setup is a huge cost savings for the insurance companies since they do not need to employ thousands of people to administer/process all the paper claims since the person making the claim has entered all of the information in the database for them via the online claim process.

As Hangdai mentioned the employee is fine. The insurance company will issue a notice to all members of the plan that any claims from a specific masseuse from a specific date will not be accepted. If you use the masseuse and submit a claim after that date, then it will not be paid.

It’s more about, did you actually go to , and receive services from the spa you are submitting the receipt for?

Insurance companies are after people who put in claims, get paid for them, but never actually paid for or received services, this applies to all healthcare and paramedical services.

All the spas I’ve dealt with keep good records, they keep copies of receipts they’ve handed out and can truthfully account for every receipt.

What goes on in the room between myself and the attendant? No insurance company can ever determine that, period, but the receipt I’ve submitted proves I’ve paid for and received services, the end.

Had a nice hour session today, got my $80 receipt, got a great massage and my 4 sogs ($100 tip)

If your thinking of trying to buy a package or some kind of "rmt" claim for a bill to help defray your hobby pricing...THEN LOL...hold off for now or don't claim to sunlife.
