I bought a $4,000 camera from an estate sale today for $400.
I went to the house and was looking at the items on display. I noticed the Canon 1DX on the table and I asked the woman who was organizing the sale how much she wanted for the camera. She said 'we are asking $400 for the camera'. I paused for a moment because I couldn't believe how little it was going for. I asked if the previous owner used it for hobby or professional use. She told me it was her Dad's camera and that he used it for personal use. So, in essence, the shutter count would be absurdly low, as such a camera can easily last 300,000 shutter actuations before it gives out. Maybe even 400,000 if one is lucky. Of course, I bought it right away.
Didn't get any lenses with it, but a 1DX for $400 is an absurdly low deal. In the used market, they go for 10x that amount.
Guys, if you ever have some free time, check your local ads for estate sales and auctions. You can get some amazingly wicked deals when people are clearing out their families belongins and they want to get rid of everything asap. When people pass, they have loads of great items that the families don't want to keep.
Just an fyi.
