East Coast Alignment is primarily an in-home service provided by myself, a certified reflexologist and Personal Support Worker, with the aim to provide high quality services to those with busy schedules, mobility and transportation issues, among other restrictions, to ensure that everyone has access to self-care services.
Reflexology has been around for thousands of years; the theory behind reflexology is that areas of the foot correspond to organs and systems of the body. Pressure applied to the foot is believed to bring relaxation and healing to the corresponding area of the body. Rather than treating just the symptoms, reflexology is a holistic, whole body approach and is great for all ages, from babies and young children to the elderly. Reflexologists use foot charts to guide them as they apply pressure to specific areas. It is safe when used concurrently with any medications, and is believed to be most effective when combined with other therapies such as chiropractic treatment, acupuncture or massage.
Several studies indicate that reflexology may reduce pain and psychological symptoms, such as stress and anxiety, and enhance relaxation and sleep. Given that reflexology is also low risk, it can be a reasonable option if you're seeking relaxation and stress relief. If you are treating a chronic condition, you might want to continue a routine of weekly sessions- keeping in mind that the desired benefits won't happen over night. As you feel better after several sessions, and you might slow down the frequency of appointments. Others get reflexology purely for the benefit of relaxation.
Treatment includes a warm foot soak with option of essential oils, foot reflexology, ending with a calming massage with lotion.
