You miss the point. It’s not about money, longevity or endurance.

Thornton wasn’t signed for what he’ll do on the ice but his leadership in the locker room. Marleau was signed to help turn Matthews and Marner into men. That job wasn’t finished. Jumbo Joe, and other signings (Bogosian and Simmonds), are meant to show them (and Nylander) how to compete.

Lol tbh I just hate how most of the youth on the leafs plays the game but Nylander is the prototypical pussy with some offensive upside ( in the regular season ) but when the playoffs comes around he is invisible !! I would even go as far to say a liability

The Leafs need to learn how to play in the corners. They need to win battles in the corners, along the boards, and infront of the net. And FFS learn to clear the puck. Hopefully Jumbo teaches them but i think Mathews and a few others will always be perimeter players.

No you missed the point. Leafs got pushed around a lot last few years. Guys like Jumbo and Simmonds will take exception to that. Plus they can still play. And again about longevity, they won't play in all the games. This is a change in philosophy for Dubas, for the good of the team.

Just look at what Tampa did this year. They kept the core in tact and brought in guys like Coleman, Goodrow, Bogisian etc who made the difference. Your core still have to be your best players like Point, Kucherov, Hedman, Vasilevsky, Cernik. It's amazing they did it without Stamkos.

Leafs already had resigned Jason Spezza & now you've added Jumbo Joe.....Not really understanding purpose of this move although more to come: I can see 1 or 2 of these players not back with TML next season:

Have to see what the divisions look like. With travel restrictions likely to still be in place there was talk of an all Canadian division and 3 US divisions. All rumour at this point.
