Beer Bar Staff

I was recently in Phuket for a few nights when doing some backpacking around Asia. Although I was staying in a youth hostel when I was in Phuket I thought I'd give a Beer Bar a shot and would maybe book a hotel next time I was in that neck of the woods.

My expectations were that I'd have to drink my fair share and also buy the girl I was with a few drinks, which was absolutely fine. However constantly throughout the course of the evening, everytime I bought a round, bar staff were pleading for me to buy them a drink as well and also other girls were over all the time either asking for drinks of wanting to play a game of connect 4 for a drink. This did get a little tiresome after a while, is this something to expect in all Beer Bars or does this just happen in a small handful?

I would say it happens all the time in Beer Bars outside of a Backpacking tour, or especially with newbies ;-)

Sounds like Backpacking is more relaxing though, gotta give it a try again (maybe) ... bar hopping holidays seem to be quite expensive at the end ...

It doesnt happen in lots of Beer Bars, just walk out and find another one.
Ive never been asked in Euro bar in Soi Eric for example....

I would say, don't forget you never been asked because you act differently in the bars ... you come as a greenhorn and see how much you pay off ...

well in Bangla its almost a cert.....however go wider out and the certainty drops....in Kamala for example I am very rarely asked for LDs....a lot of it depends on the bar owners attitude as well

Don't buy lady drinks unless you seriously want to bar fine a girl and take her back to your room.

Just say no - they pout a bit but they get over it really quickly.

Cheers for the tips guys, was my first time, so was a little overwhelming and I probably gave the vide of fresh meat.

Will deffo keep all comments in mind for my next trip if I'm going to do bar hopping a bit more frequently.

Its a tad different for expats and regulars compared to tourists, a guy known in a bar will have a lot less hassle, and the word No still works, just say no if you dont want.
