    Hi all

    Just a quick question, for those who practice massagein their homes. How much do you charge for a one hour full body swedish massage? I know we all live in differentparts of the country but I am just trying to get some idea of the going rate.

    Thank you xxx

    Hi

    I currently charge £15 for a full swedish. I originally charged £20 however the going rate up here in the North East is from £15 to £35. As I am just starting out I thought I would lower my rates and then increase them in a years time. Not sure if thats the right thing to do, but Grimsby is a low economy area.

    Not had anyone book in yet, but have a client tomorrow and am charging just £8 for a back massage.

    You don't mention where you are from, and as you said the price does vary from area to area.

    Good Luck

    I charge £42 for a full 90 minute holistic body massage (the average going rate charged by professionally qualified massage therapists round here), including a cleansing, relaxing foot bath and massage. The free consultation is as well as the 90 minute massage. I use only organic oils.
    I am surprised how little some people are charging for what is a deeply relaxing and beneficial treatment. In my experience, the less you charge, the less people value the treatment, and the less bookings you get!! As I say to clients, the price you pay is not for my skills or qualifications, but my time - the wonderful massage comes free!!! I do offer special discounts and offers tho, and love my job!!

    I am based in Sheffield.

    I’m in Croydon and charge £30 for an hour. I sometimes do ‘therapy swaps’ with two other local therapists who charge the same. As previous contributors have pointed out, I think that the ‘going rate’ will vary widely according to where the therapist is based. There was a survey in 2005 which purported to show the average income for each Parliamentary constituency. For example, the average income in Kensington & Chelsea was over £50,000 pa, whereas the average income in Croydon North was only £18,800 pa. I would expect that therapists working in Kensington & Chelsea would charge more than therapists working in Croydon North.

  10. Hi all

    Thank you for your replies, it is hard tomake the decision about what to charge because you do not want to frighten away potential clients with the cost but on the otherhand Ido feel that if you offerthe massagecheap they will just think you are not very good.Just another quick question do you give discounts to regular customers? iethosethat cometo you about once a month.

    I offer disounts to those who Prepay for blocks of treatments. Or I have a loyalty card, ten stamps (ie treatments) and you get a free massage. Refer a friend and you get a bonus stamp.

    Personally I don't offer discounts. I think that my prices are quite reasonable without any discount (and since my previous posting, I've had an email from another HP reader saying just that !). But if I were to increase my prices - which I don't intend to do in the immediate future - I would probably keep charging my long-serving customers my current prices for a limited period, as a way of saying thank you.

    I charge £25 for 55 minutes
    £15 for 25 minutes
    this includes massage using many techniques including Hands-free techniques and other movements borrowed from other treatments.

    For aromatherapy
    £25 for 55 minutes (soon to go up to £26)
    £18 for 25 minutes.

    I offer a special offer every month.

    I occassionally offer special discounts if they have recommended a friend, usually £5 off next treatment.

    don't undervalue yourself, think how much YOUR TIME is worth, what YOU WANT TO EARN.

    I am well worth £25 for an hour, and resent earning less than that, therefore I don't do it.

    I charge the same for mobile and for a treatment in my clinic.

    I think this is something that is very important for us all to remember and actually embrace. What we do isn't something that just anybody can do. We've all invested a lot of ourselves, our time and our money into helping other people feel better and that is definately worth something, often more than we give ourselves credit for!

    I've only recently started out and when working out my pricing structure, I found out how much other therapists in the area were charging. You'll probably be surprised at the variation in costs. I put all the charges on a spreadsheet, which averaged them all for me and that's what I based my prices on.

    Hi Guys,

    I've been working as a freelance Massage Practitioner in London for over 10yrs. My pricing structure is based on my experience and the fact that I specialise in deep tissue bodywork using my own blended aromatherapy oils.

    My current rates are;
    Clinic
    30mins = £35
    45mins = £50
    60mins = £65
    90mins = £95

    Home Visit
    60mins = £80
    90mins = £115

    My long standing clients that have been with me for several years are on a rate that rewards their loyalty.

    If someone questions my charge as being too high I don't bargain. My charges relect my experience so if you don't like it, find another practitioner. This may seem hard, but, experience has taught me that self repect and repect from your client is necessary for a happy working relationship.

    Experience has also taught me that you cant be everything to everyone. Specialise and find a niche for yourself and sell that point. Don't spread your skills over a wide base.
