I put this note on The Columbia message board because it's the closest to Ecuador. Every city in Ecuador seems to have a "Zone of Tolerance". I was in Guayaquil for one night and in Cuenca for two weeks, studying Spanish, and had a close look. On this street in Cuenca there are six bordellas. On a typical afternoon during the week there will be forty or fifty girls hanging out across these establishments. There are no tourists or gringos at any of them, it's strictly a local show. I asked at the bar "cuanta cuesta la cuenta?" which means "How much is a ticket?". He gave me a plastic card and asked for ten dollars. Beers there are two dollars and the locals really seemed to be nursing them.
